The role is ideal for someone starting their journalism career who has some prior experience (0-2 years) who enjoys writing, asking questions, speaking to people, learning about an industry, and turning developments into clear, useful stories for a professional audience. You'll work closely with experienced editors who will provide guidance and help you develop your reporting and writing skills.

What you will do

You will:

  • identify story ideas from industry developments, press releases, interviews, events and your own research;
  • conduct interviews with suppliers, associations, tourism organisations and other industry stakeholders, with editorial support where needed;
  • help explain developments that affect the travel and tourism industry;
  • attend industry events, launches and press briefings when required;
  • work closely with editors to develop story angles, improve structure and ensure accuracy;
  • meet editorial deadlines and contribute to a consistent flow of quality news;
  • build your knowledge of the travel and tourism industry over time.

What we are looking for

We are looking for someone with:

  • a bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English, English literature, media studies, politics, economics, history, law, business, tourism or another relevant field;
  • some practical writing experience through internships, freelance work, student publications, communications, marketing, content creation, research or a similar environment; (Preferable 1-2 years prior experience)
  • excellent written English and the ability to write clearly and accurately;
  • curiosity, initiative and confidence to contact people, ask thoughtful questions and follow up;
  • an interest in business and current affairs, with the ability to understand and explain complex topics simply;
  • strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy;
  • good organisational skills and the ability to manage deadlines;
  • professional communication skills and a willingness to receive feedback and learn;
  • an interest in the travel and tourism industry.

A journalism degree is not essential. Applicants should be able to demonstrate strong writing ability through published articles, student publications, blogs, newsletters, reports, portfolios or other examples of their work.
