ROLE IMPACT

The Welder is responsible for carrying out a variety of welding, fabrication, fitting, repair, maintenance, and workshop support activities. The incumbent will perform coded welding on various materials and components, fabricate and assemble equipment, assist with trailer maintenance and modifications, and contribute to the efficient operation of the workshop while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and workmanship

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Welding and Fabrication

  • Perform coded welding using the following welding processes:
  • CO (MIG) Welding
  • TIG Welding
  • Stick (Arc) Welding
  • Stainless Steel Welding
  • Hard facing and Tempering Welding
  • Conduct cutting, grinding, bevelling, preparation, fit-up, and assembly of materials prior to welding.
  • Inspect completed welds to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
  • Carry out repairs and modifications to steel structures, components, and equipment as required.
  • Work with AIA during pressure vessel repairs.

Maintenance and Workshop Support

  • Assist with the maintenance, repair, and refurbishment of interlinks and high-speed trailers.
  • Assist with the fitment, installation, and modification of tanks on fertilizer trailers.
  • Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance activities on workshop equipment and assets.
  • Support other workshop-related activities as required to ensure operational efficiency.

General Responsibilities

  • Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
  • Ensure all work is completed within allocated timeframes and according to company standards.

Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.

  • Adhere to all health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
  • Properly use and maintain welding equipment, tools, machinery, and personal protective equipment (PPE).

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Valid coded welding qualifications in relevant welding processes.

Experience

  • Proven experience in coded welding across multiple welding disciplines.
  • Experience in stainless steel fabrication and welding.
  • Experience in trailer maintenance, repair, and structural modifications (min 5 years)
  • Experience in pipe fabrication and manifold construction.
