Job Purpose:

The Endoscope Technician – Level 1 is responsible for performing incoming inspections, preventative maintenance, and basic functional assessments of flexible endoscopes in accordance with OEM standards. The role ensures accurate condition assessment, supports cost estimation, and maintains strict adherence to quality and compliance requirements.

The technician operates under supervision and does not perform internal repairs, forming the foundation of the endoscope repair competency pathway.


Main Tsks/Responsibilities:

Inspection and Assessment

  • Perform incoming inspection of endoscopes including visual, functional, and leak testing.
  • Assess device condition and support accurate quotation and repair decisions.
  • Identify visible defects, wear patterns, and potential failure points.

Preventative Maintenance

  • Perform cleaning, basic servicing, and preventative maintenance activities as defined by OEM procedures.
  • Ensure scopes meet baseline functional and safety requirements prior to repair or release.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Accurately record inspection findings and device condition.
  • Review customer documentation to ensure all requirements are captured.

Quality and Compliance

  • Adhere to ISO 13485, OEM standards, and internal SOPs.
  • Maintain strict control of inspection processes and documentation.

Tools and Equipment

  • Ensure inspection tools and test equipment are calibrated and fit for use.

LIMITATIONS OF ROLE (CRITICAL FOR CONTROL):

  • No internal disassembly of endoscopes.
  • No component replacement beyond inspection-level activities.
  • All findings subject to review by higher certification level.

Special Knowledge and Skills:

Technical Expertise and Equipment Knowledge

  • Endoscope System Understanding: Foundational knowledge of flexible endoscope construction, including insertion tube, distal tip, control body, light transmission systems, and internal channels.
  • Inspection Methodology: Competent in performing structured incoming inspections including visual inspection, leak testing, articulation testing, and functional verification in accordance with OEM procedures.
  • Fault Recognition: Ability to identify common failure modes such as external wear, bending rubber damage, leakage, articulation stiffness, and image degradation indicators.
  • Diagnostic Tools Usage: Skilled in the use of inspection equipment such as leak testers, light sources, and visual magnification tools to assess device condition accurately.
  • Preventative Maintenance Awareness: Understanding of preventative maintenance principles and ability to identify early-stage failures before escalation.

Quality, Compliance, and Safety Knowledge

  • Regulatory Standards Compliance: Basic understanding of ISO 13485 requirements and adherence to internal quality management systems and SOPs.
  • Inspection Accuracy and Traceability: Ability to produce detailed, accurate, and traceable inspection reports that support repair decisions and cost estimation.
  • Contamination Control: Knowledge of handling protocols for medical devices, including infection control, cleaning requirements, and safe handling practices.
  • Patient Safety Awareness: Understanding that inspection outcomes directly impact patient safety and device reliability.

Project Management and Workflow Efficiency

  • Workflow Discipline: Ability to manage repetitive inspection processes efficiently while maintaining high accuracy.
  • Throughput Management: Contributes to maintaining inspection turnaround times to support repair workflow.
  • Handover Accuracy: Ensures clear and structured communication of findings to repair technicians to avoid rework or misdiagnosis.

Customer Support and Training

  • Internal Support Role: Provides accurate inspection data to support internal repair teams and cost estimation processes.
  • Quality Feedback Loop: Contributes to identifying recurring faults and feeding back trends to improve repair processes.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Structured Reporting: Ability to clearly document technical findings in a manner understandable to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Team Collaboration: Works closely with repair technicians and quality personnel to ensure alignment on device condition and required actions.

Pharmacovigilance Principles:

  • Understanding of pharmacovigilance practices for monitoring and reporting adverse events.
  • Commitment to contributing to pharmacovigilance efforts.

ISO 13485 Standards:

  • Basic awareness of ISO 13485 standards for quality management systems.

Recognition of the importance of quality management systems in ensuring product safety and compliance.


  • National Diploma in Clinical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or an equivalent three-year technical qualification or relevant technical experience within Adcotech.
  • Completion of internal onboarding training for endoscope handling, inspection processes, and contamination control.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of technical experience in medical devices, quality inspection, or similar precision technical environment.
  • Exposure to inspection, testing, or quality control processes advantageous.
  • Basic understanding of diagnostic tools and inspection equipment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic equipment management systems.
