As a Scientist in Genetics, you will play an important role in supporting the delivery of high-quality molecular genetic testing services. Working within a dynamic Molecular Genetics Laboratory, you will process specimens in accordance with established standards and laboratory requirements, helping to ensure accurate and reliable outcomes for patients and healthcare providers.

Qualification Requirements

To be successful in this position, you will hold a BSc Honours Degree and be registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Scientist. Human Genetics / Genetics or Molecular Genetics These qualifications will provide the scientific foundation and professional standing required to perform confidently within a specialized Molecular Genetics environment while maintaining the standards expected of the profession.

You will bring 0-2 years’ experience within a Molecular Genetics or Human Genetics laboratory environment. Through this experience, you will have developed a sound understanding of laboratory practices, specimen processing, quality requirements, and scientific methodologies relevant to molecular diagnostics.

Experience working within a collaborative team environment will enable you to contribute effectively while continuing to build your technical expertise. You will also be eager to share knowledge with colleagues and support the development of emerging scientific talent within the laboratory.

Skills Requirements

Success in this role requires strong computer literacy and the ability to use technology confidently and effectively as part of daily laboratory operations. You will be comfortable working with laboratory systems and digital tools to support quality, accuracy, and efficiency.

Strong communication skills are equally important. You will be able to read, write, and speak fluently in both English and Afrikaans, enabling you to interact professionally with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders while building positive and trusted relationships.

You will also possess sound numerical reasoning skills, allowing you to perform routine calculations accurately and confidently. Combined with a strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality, these skills will support your ability to deliver work of a consistently high standard.

Role Impact

In this role, you will contribute to the laboratory’s success by receiving and processing specimens in a manner that supports the timely delivery of results and excellent service to healthcare professionals and patients. Your scientific expertise will assist in the development and evaluation of assays, contributing to innovation and the ongoing enhancement of laboratory services.

You will play an active role in accreditation and quality control activities, helping to uphold the standards that underpin confidence in our results and services. Through knowledge sharing and practical guidance, you will support the training and development of learner scientists, contributing to a culture of learning and professional growth.
