Aon South Africa is hiring a Claims Specialist in the Claims Department, this is a hybrid role with the flexibility to work both virtually and from our head office in Sandton.

The Specialty Claims Handler is responsible for providing expert claims management, advocacy and technical support across a portfolio of specialty insurance classes. The role acts as a trusted advisor to clients, brokers and insurers, ensuring claims are managed proactively from notification through to settlement while delivering exceptional client outcomes and protecting clients' interests.

What the day will look like

  • Manage a portfolio of claims from notification through to final settlement, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
  • Provide proactive claims advocacy and support to clients, ensuring their interests are represented throughout the claims process.
  • Liaise with insurers, loss adjusters, attorneys, assessors and other service providers to progress claims and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Investigate and analyze claims to determine coverage applicability, liability considerations and policy responses.
  • Review and interpret policy wordings, endorsements and underwriting information to provide accurate claims' guidance.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients and internal stakeholders regarding claim status, developments and resolution strategies.
  • Escalate contentious, high-value or technically complex claims where appropriate and assist in developing resolution strategies.
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date claims records are maintained on all relevant systems and files.
  • Prepare claims reports, claims statistics and management information for clients, brokers and internal stakeholders.
  • Assist with new business presentations, tender submissions and renewal discussions where claims expertise and loss experience analysis are required.
  • Support client claims review meetings and contribute insights on claims trends, lessons learnt and risk mitigation opportunities.
  • Identify potential claims process improvements and contribute to initiatives aimed at enhancing service delivery and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure all claims activities are conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory, compliance, key performance measurements and company requirements.
  • Analyze claims data to identify trends, emerging risks and opportunities to improve client outcomes and claims performance.
  • Contribute to the achievement of service level agreements, client retention objectives and overall team performance targets.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, brokers and insurer partners to support exceptional service delivery and client satisfaction.

Skills and experience that will lead to success

Qualifications.

  • A minimum of Grade 12 or equivalent
  • A degree is preferable
  • Must be registered as a representative with the FSB in terms of the FAIS Act
  • Must be registered as an associate with the IISA

Knowledge.

  • Advanced analytical, technical and problem-solving know-how.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the South African and international short-term insurance markets will be advantageous.
  • An in-depth strategic knowledge of industry and business strategies and company goals will be advantageous.
  • Excellent knowledge of policy wordings.
  • Digital literacy with sophisticated knowledge in MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

Experience.

  • Have a minimum of 1-3 years’ experience in a similar or related role
  • Have experience in Insurance
