About the Role

WBHO Construction Eastern Cape is seeking an experienced, commercially astute and results-driven Senior Contracts Manager to join our management team.

The successful candidate will take overall responsibility for the delivery of multiple construction projects, or a single large and complex contract, from pre-construction and site establishment through execution, completion and final handover.

This is a senior operational role requiring strong construction knowledge, leadership capability and commercial awareness. The successful candidate will be accountable for ensuring projects are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to a high-quality standard.

Key Responsibilities

• Take overall responsibility for the successful delivery of assigned construction projects.
• Establish, monitor and manage construction programmes, production targets, resources and project forecasts.
• Ensure projects are appropriately resourced and managed to achieve required production outputs.
• Monitor project costs, productivity, site allowables and commercial performance against budget.
• Identify programme, operational, contractual and commercial risks early and implement corrective action.
• Lead and develop multidisciplinary project teams, establishing clear accountability and a strong performance culture.
• Select, coordinate and manage subcontractors against programme, quality, safety and commercial requirements.
• Maintain professional relationships with clients, consultants and other stakeholders while protecting WBHO's contractual and commercial position.
• Ensure compliance with applicable quality, health, safety and environmental requirements.
• Provide accurate and timely project reporting to senior management.
• Assist with tender planning, construction methodology and project resourcing.
• Drive projects through practical completion, handover and final close-out.

Experience & Qualifications

• Appropriate tertiary qualification in Building, Construction Management, Civil Engineering or a related built-environment discipline.
• Approximately 10 to 15 years' relevant construction experience, with substantial experience in a senior project or contracts management role.
• Proven experience managing significant building and/or civil construction contracts.
• Demonstrable experience across the full construction lifecycle, including pre-construction, planning, procurement, construction, commercial management, completion and handover.
• Strong track record of delivering projects safely, on time, within budget and to a high-quality standard.
• Strong knowledge of construction programming, cost control, site allowables and project reporting.
• Competence in CCS, Microsoft Excel and appropriate construction planning/project-management software.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, teams and priorities simultaneously.

The successful candidate will be a confident and decisive construction leader who is commercially aware, financially disciplined and highly organised. They must be an effective communicator and negotiator, comfortable engaging with clients, consultants, subcontractors and senior management, and capable of making sound decisions under pressure.

A strong focus on accountability, teamwork, developing people, problem-solving and delivering results is essential.
