Full job description
We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate and experienced Addiction Counsellor to join our team. Applicants must have practical experience working in a substance-use or addiction rehabilitation environment. If you are passionate about supporting individuals and families affected by addiction and are committed to helping patients achieve sustainable recovery, we would like to hear from you.
Requirements & Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years' practical experience working in a substance-use, addiction treatment or rehabilitation environment.
- Relevant qualification or formal training in Addiction Counselling
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of substance-use disorders, addiction, recovery and relapse prevention.
- Experience providing counselling to individuals, couples and families.
- Experience working with patients with co-occurring mental health and substance-use challenges (dual diagnosis) will be advantageous.
- Ability to conduct or contribute to assessments of patients' substance-use history, psychosocial needs and overall wellbeing, within the scope of the individual's professional training and role.
- Provide individual and group counselling and support patients in developing healthy coping skills and practical recovery strategies.
- Provide psychoeducation to patients and families regarding addiction, recovery, relapse prevention and ongoing recovery support.
- Ability to monitor patient progress and provide appropriate feedback to the multidisciplinary treatment team.
- Assist with discharge planning, referrals and aftercare support to promote continuity of care following treatment.
- Ability to maintain accurate, professional and confidential patient records and counselling documentation.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with doctors, psychiatrists, nurses and other healthcare professionals.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and counselling skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain appropriate professional boundaries with patients and their families.
- High level of confidentiality, professionalism and ethical conduct when handling patient information and health records.
- Adaptability, emotional maturity and the ability to work effectively in a residential rehabilitation environment.
- Must be able to interact with patients and their families in a professional, respectful and empathetic manner.
