DTP Operator

Prepare, layout, and finalize digital artwork for print or digital distribution, ensuring it meets technical, visual, and production specifications.

Key Responsibilities

1. File Preparation & Layout

  • Receive design briefs, customer logos, or mockups (often from sales, designers, or clients)
  • Create layouts according to specific templates (e.g., umbrella panels, banners, packaging)
  • Ensure proper placement, scale, and alignment of elements

2. Colour & Print Accuracy

  • Convert artwork into the correct colour format (CMYK, Pantone, RGB) for the print process
  • Adjust colours for fabric types, substrates, or ink limitations
  • Conduct test prints or soft proofs for review

3. Typography & Text Handling

  • Format product names, taglines, instructions, or technical text
  • Ensure fonts are embedded or outlined correctly
  • Correct spelling and spacing issues before print

4. Pre-Press Checks

  • Set correct bleed, crop marks, margins, and resolution
  • Check for missing images, font errors, or low-res graphics
  • Flatten layers or convert files as needed (e.g., PDF, TIFF, AI, EPS)

5. Production Coordination

  • Send final approved files to printers or RIP software (Raster Image Processor)
  • Save and organize files per job number or order
  • Work closely with printing teams, cutters, and finishers to avoid errors

6. Quality Control

  • Review printed output to compare against digital file
  • Flag any issues with registration, blurring, or color shifting

Tools Commonly Used

  • Adobe Illustrator – vector layout & design
  • Adobe Photoshop – image correction & mockups
  • CorelDRAW (depending on the company/region)
  • InDesign (for multi-page or typographic-heavy layouts)
  • RIP Software (like ONYX, Caldera, Ergosoft)

DTP operator may specifically:

  • Prepare canvas panel prints for umbrellas
  • Set up repeating patterns or logo placements
  • Ensure color matching on fabric types
  • Align printing files to cutting templates or stitching guidelines
  • Liaise with digital printers and screen printers to avoid production errors

Large Format Printer operation

This role is for an experienced DTP operator with Large Format Printer operator experience.

You will be expected to be the printer operator and DTP operator
