ob Purpose

The Electrical Engineering Intern will provide technical and administrative support to the engineering and project teams. The internship offers practical workplace experience in electrical design, installations, inspections, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and project documentation under the supervision of qualified professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the design and development of electrical systems.
  • Support the preparation of electrical drawings, calculations, specifications, technical reports, and bills of quantities.
  • Assist with site inspections, condition assessments, and the monitoring of electrical installations.
  • Support the testing, commissioning, maintenance, and fault-finding of electrical equipment and systems.
  • Collect and record technical information from project sites.
  • Assist with reviewing drawings, tender documents, contractor submissions, and product specifications.
  • Prepare site reports, progress reports, snag lists, and supporting project documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of drawings, test results, certificates, approvals, and maintenance activities.
  • Attend technical, project, and site meetings when required.
  • Assist with tender preparation, pricing schedules, supplier assessments, and technical submissions.
  • Liaise with contractors, suppliers, consultants, clients, and other project stakeholders.
  • Follow all occupational health and safety requirements while working in the office and on project sites.
  • Perform other engineering-related duties assigned by the supervising engineer or project manager.

Minimum Requirements

  • A completed Bachelor’s Degree, BEng, BSc Eng, BTech, or Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
  • Recent graduate with limited or no formal work experience.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems, power distribution, lighting, control systems, and electrical installations.
  • Basic understanding of relevant SANS standards and electrical safety requirements.
  • Computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD or other electrical design software will be advantageous.
  • ECSA Candidate registration or eligibility for registration will be advantageous.
  • A valid South African driver’s licence will be advantageous.
  • Willingness to travel and work on project sites when required.
