Full job description

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Identifying environmental impacts and aspects relating to the day-to-day construction activities.
  • Preparation of reports: including implementation, progress, status etc. Assist in the direct implementation of the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) Ensure that the requirements of the CEMP are effectively communicated to, understood by, and complied with by all personnel, contractors, and subcontractors on site, and enforce adherence to all applicable environmental requirements and procedures.
  • Conduct environmental inspections, audits, and follow up on corrective and preventative actions.
  • Conduct environmental risk assessments and review method statements. Prepare and submit environmental reports to the Engineer.
  • Facilitate environmental awareness training and presentations.
  • Monitor and report on environmental performance and compliance. Provide environmental advice and guidance to site teams. Promote environmental best practices through stakeholder engagement. Conduct ad hoc environmental audits with regulatory authorities.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree of Health and Environmental Management (NQF Level 7) or higher degree
  • Experience in SANRAL Projects (Road Construction and/or RRM), with a minimum of 3 projects which have a construction value of R80 million or more (inclusive of VAT);
  • Active professional registration as Environmental Officer with SACNASP Knowledge of industrial construction processes (waste, effluent management, air borne releases, etc.) Passion for the environment
  • Excellent writing skills Proficient in Excel, Word, and Outlook (Microsoft Office) Excellent communication & people skills (Assertiveness) Efficiency & accuracy Pro-active & able to work independently
  • Liaise with relevant authorities to obtain and maintain environmental permits and approvals.
