Job Title: Network Cabling & Fibre Technician

Job Summary

ELECDATA (Pty) Ltd is looking for a motivated and experienced Network Cabling & Fibre Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, testing, termination, and maintenance of structured cabling and fibre optic infrastructure across a variety of commercial and industrial projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, and test Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, and fibre optic cabling.
• Install cable containment including trunking, conduit, basket tray, cable tray, and ladder rack.
• Perform fibre splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and fault finding.
• Install and terminate patch panels, cabinets, network outlets, and associated hardware.
• Test and certify copper and fibre installations using approved test equipment.
• Read and interpret network drawings, floor plans, and installation specifications.
• Ensure all installations comply with industry standards and company quality procedures.
• Complete job documentation, test reports, and handover documentation accurately.
• Work independently or as part of a team to meet project deadlines.

Minimum Requirements

• Minimum 4 years' experience in structured cabling and fibre optic installations.
• Experience with copper and fibre termination and testing.
• Knowledge of network infrastructure installation standards.
• Ability to read technical drawings and installation plans.
• Valid South African driver's licence.
• Willingness to travel and work away from home when required.
• Physically fit and comfortable working at heights where necessary.
• Good communication and problem-solving skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

Advantageous

• Fibre splicing certification.
• Panduit, CommScope, Molex, or similar structured cabling certifications.
• Experience with Fluke DSX CableAnalyzer and fibre OTDR testing.
• Working at Heights certification.
