ECD Practitioner Assistant Internship Programme (24 Months)

Sparrow FET College invites applications from suitably qualified graduates to join the 24-Month ECD Practitioner Assistant Internship Programme. This programme provides practical workplace experience in registered Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres, preparing participants for a rewarding career in the education sector.

Programme Duration

24 Months

Minimum Qualification

Applicants must have completed an NQF Level 6 Diploma in one of the following or a related field:

• Early Childhood Development (ECD)
• Educare
• Early Childhood Care and Education
• Foundation Phase Education
• Education Studies
• Inclusive Education
• Special Needs Education
• Learning Support
• Educational Support
• Or another recognised Education-related Diploma (NQF Level 6)

Role of the ECD Practitioner Assistant

Successful candidates will be placed in registered ECD centres where they will:

• Assist ECD practitioners with daily teaching and learning activities.
• Support the implementation of age-appropriate learning programmes.
• Assist with classroom preparation and educational resources.
• Support children's learning, development, health, safety, and well-being.
• Help monitor learners' progress and maintain classroom records.
• Participate in staff meetings and professional development activities.
• Promote an inclusive, safe, and nurturing learning environment.

Minimum Requirements

• South African citizen.
• Completed an Education-related Diploma (NQF Level 6).
• Passion for working with young children.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Computer literacy.
• Willingness to be placed at a registered ECD centre.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Programme Information

• Position: ECD Practitioner Assistant Intern
• Duration: 24 Months
• Monthly Stipend: R6,000
• Workplace Placement: Sparrow FET College
• Location: Sparrow FET College, Sophiatown, Johannesburg
