Full job description
Location: Wine Estate, Stellenbosch, Western Cape
About us
A family-owned wine estate in the Stellenbosch winelands, known for its award-winning wines and Cap Classique. We host wine tastings, lunches, and private events, and we're looking for a friendly, polished waiter to join our front-of-house team.
The role
You'll provide warm, professional service to guests dining and tasting on the estate, and use your wine knowledge to help them enjoy their visit.
Your responsibilities:
- Welcome guests and take food and wine orders
- Recommend wines and pair them with menu items
- Serve wine correctly (presentation, opening, pouring, glassware)
- Support the team during events, functions, and busy periods
- Keep your section clean, stocked, and set up to our standards
- Handle bills and payments accurately
- Work closely with the kitchen, bar, and events team for smooth service
What we're looking for
Essential:
- At least 2+ years' experience as a waiter in a restaurant, wine estate, or hospitality venue
- Good working knowledge of wine, including varietals, regions, and service basics
- A friendly, confident manner and strong communication skills
- Ability to work weekends, public holidays, and event shifts
- Reliable, punctual, and neat in appearance
- Own transport (the estate is outside town)
Advantageous:
- WSET, Cape Wine Academy, or similar wine qualification
- Experience with Cap Classique and tasting room service
- Experience with POS systems
- Fluency in English and Afrikaans (other languages are a plus)
