Full job description

A General Garden Worker in South Africa is a hands-on role focused on the physical upkeep and maintenance of outdoor spaces. While specific duties can vary by employer, the core responsibilities are consistently centred on the following areas: · Garden & Plant Care: This includes soil cultivation, digging, planting, watering, weeding, mulching, pruning trees and shrubs, mowing lawns, trimming edges, applying fertilisers or pesticides, and basic landscaping. · Grounds & Facility Upkeep: Keeping pathways, parking lots, and seating areas clear of litter and debris; emptying bins; cleaning gutters, drains, and fountains; assisting with minor repairs to fences and gates; and sometimes helping to load, offload, or move furniture and supplies. · Equipment & Tool Maintenance: Safely operating and performing basic maintenance checks on machinery (lawnmowers, trimmers, leaf blowers), ensuring tools are stored securely and reporting any faults or damage. · Safety & Compliance: Following health and safety regulations, wearing protective clothing (PPE), and contributing to a safety-conscious work environment. Some positions may require working outside in all weather conditions or during emergencies. · General Labour Tasks: Handling physical tasks like sweeping, packing, lifting, cleaning work areas, and performing other ad hoc duties as assigned by a supervisor. Regarding salary, this role is generally considered unskilled or semi-skilled. Monthly pay can start from around R5,800 to R6,000 for entry-level positions.
