About the Role

We are urgently looking for a capable back-end Laravel / PHP resource to support ongoing development, integrations, and data plumbing work across our systems.

This is a temporary position to start, but there is a strong possibility of transitioning into a full-time role for the right person. We need someone who can quickly understand existing systems, work through technical tasks independently, and help keep projects moving without needing excessive hand-holding.

The ideal candidate is practical, reliable, and comfortable working in the engine room of a business: APIs, databases, back-end logic, imports, exports, integrations, data clean-up, automation, and system-to-system communication.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and improve back-end systems using PHP and Laravel
• Build and support APIs, integrations, and internal tools
• Work with databases, queries, migrations, and data structures
• Assist with data imports, exports, transformations, and clean-up
• Connect different systems and services through reliable data workflows
• Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve back-end issues
• Review and improve existing code where needed
• Work with the team to understand urgent business and technical requirements
• Document technical decisions, processes, and important system knowledge

Required Skills

• Strong PHP experience
• Solid Laravel experience
• Good understanding of MySQL or similar relational databases
• Experience working with APIs and third-party integrations
• Comfortable with data plumbing, including imports, exports, mapping, clean-up, and transformation
• Ability to debug and work through existing codebases
• Understanding of Git and version control workflows
• Ability to work independently and deliver under urgency
• Strong attention to detail and reliability

Advantageous Skills

• Experience with queues, jobs, schedulers, and background processes in Laravel
• Experience with ETL-style workflows or data migration projects
• Experience working with cloud hosting, deployment, or server environments
• Familiarity with JavaScript, Vue, React, or other front-end technologies
• Experience with reporting systems, dashboards, or business operations tools
• Experience improving performance in database-heavy applications

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who is technically strong, dependable, and able to get stuck in quickly. This role would suit a developer who enjoys solving practical back-end problems and making systems talk to each other cleanly.

You should be comfortable asking the right questions, spotting potential issues, and proposing sensible solutions. We do not need theory for theory’s sake. We need someone who can help build, fix, connect, and stabilise.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: R20 000,00 - R25 000,00 per month
