Job Overview

The store clerk ensures that all lodge departments, such as housekeeping, food and beverage, and kitchen receive the necessary items on time. They maintain accurate inventory records, organize storerooms, and coordinate with suppliers and lodge staff to ensure smooth daily operations. This role requires working independently while adhering to company procedures and standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accept deliveries, verify goods against purchase orders and invoices, check for quality and quantity, and report discrepancies or damages.
  • Coordinate returns or replacements with suppliers when necessary
  • Maintain accurate inventory records, conduct cycle counts, and assist with physical inventory audits.
  • Monitor stock levels and notify the purchasing department when replenishment is needed.
  • Apply FIFO (First-In, First-Out) rotation for perishable goods
  • Properly store food, beverage, and operational stock in designated storerooms, refrigerators, or freezers.
  • Ensure items are adequately labeled, protected, and organized for ease of access.
  • Maintain cleanliness and comply with hygiene regulations.
  • Prepare and issue items to lodge departments, ensuring correct documentation and recording in inventory systems.
  • Keep records of received, issued, returned, and transferred goods.
  • Prepare stock reports for management or audits.
  • Follow lodge and health safety guidelines for handling chemicals, food items, and equipment.
  • Report hazards, damaged goods, or equipment issues immediately.
  • Operate material-handling equipment safely if required.
  • Assist with events or operations involving large deliveries or inventory adjustments.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Grade 12 or equivalent minimum.
  • Degree in hotel management or hospitality-related field preferred
  • 2+ years previous experience in storekeeping, inventory management, or hospitality is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with hotel operations, supplies, and stock control systems enhances performance.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and attention to detail skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and follow inventory procedures.
  • Basic computer skills, familiarity with inventory systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Physical stamina, standing for long periods, and performing tasks like bending, reaching, and carrying items.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, including flexible schedules for nights, weekends, holidays, or overtime.
