Job Purpose

The HR Officer is responsible for supporting and executing the full spectrum of Human Resources functions across multiple business units. The role focuses on Industrial Relations, Employee Relations, Recruitment, Performance Management, Labour Law Compliance, Training & Development, and HR Administration. The incumbent will ensure adherence to labour legislation, company policies, and industry bargaining council requirements while promoting a positive and productive workplace culture.

Key Responsibilities


1. Industrial Relations & Employee Relations

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant labour legislation, including the Labour Relations Act (LRA), Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA), Employment Equity Act (EEA), Skills Development Act, and applicable Bargaining Council agreements.
  • Advise management on employee relations matters, disciplinary processes, grievances, and labour law compliance.
  • Investigate and resolve employee grievances and workplace disputes.
  • Foster positive employee relations and support employee engagement initiatives.
  • Assist with consultations relating to misconduct, incapacity, poor performance, and operational requirements.

2. Disciplinary & Performance Management

  • Facilitate and coordinate disciplinary processes in accordance with company policies and labour legislation.
  • Draft warnings, notices, disciplinary documentation, and hearing outcomes.
  • Chair or support disciplinary hearings, grievance hearings, and incapacity enquiries.
  • Guide managers on corrective action, performance management, and disciplinary procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of all disciplinary and performance-related matters.

3. CCMA, Bargaining Council & Legal Compliance

  • Manage referrals, disputes, and cases at the CCMA and relevant Bargaining Councils.
  • Prepare case files, witness statements, evidence bundles and supporting documentation.
  • Represent the company or assist legal representatives during conciliations and arbitrations.
  • Monitor developments in labour legislation and ensure company compliance.
  • Mitigate legal risks through proactive employee relations management.

6. HR Administration & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate employee records and HR information systems.
  • Prepare monthly HR reports and management reports.
  • Employment offers, contracts, and onboarding processes.
  • Administer leave, absenteeism, probation reviews, and employee movements.
  • Ensure all HR documentation is compliant, updated, and securely maintained.
  • Assist with HR audits and compliance reviews.

7. Employment Equity & Compliance

  • Support the implementation and monitoring of Employment Equity initiatives.
  • Assist with Employment Equity reporting and submissions.
  • Promote diversity, inclusion, and fair employment practices.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and statutory requirements.

8. Payroll Support & Employee Benefits

  • Provide accurate payroll inputs and employee data to the payroll department.
  • Assist employees with benefit-related queries.
  • Monitor leave balances and employee records.
  • Ensure payroll-related documentation is submitted accurately and timeously.


Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial Psychology, Labour Relations, Industrial Relations, or a related field.

Experience

  • Minimum 3–4 year's HR Officer experience.
  • Proven experience in Industrial Relations and Employee Relations.
  • Experience handling disciplinary hearings, grievances, and CCMA matters.
  • Experience within the Automotive, Motor Industry, Retail, Logistics, or Multi-Site Operations environment will be advantageous.

Knowledge & Technical Competencies

  • Labour Relations Act (LRA)
  • Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA)
  • Employment Equity Act (EEA)
  • Bargaining Council processes and procedures
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Strong report writing and document drafting skills.
