Full job description

We are seeking an experienced, passionate, and hands-on General Manager to lead a boutique wine bar in the heart of Newlands.

This role is ideal for a hospitality professional who thrives in a guest-focused environment, has a strong appreciation for wine and service excellence, and can confidently oversee all aspects of daily operations.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Service

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the venue
  • Ensure exceptional guest experiences and service standards
  • Lead service periods and maintain a visible floor presence
  • Handle guest feedback and resolve issues professionally
  • Maintain venue presentation, cleanliness, and compliance standards

Team Leadership

  • Recruit, train, mentor, and motivate staff
  • Manage staff schedules and labour costs
  • Conduct performance reviews and disciplinary procedures where required
  • Foster a positive and professional team culture

Financial Management

  • Manage budgets and operating costs
  • *Monitor sales performance and profitability
  • Oversee daily cash-ups and banking procedures
  • Manage stock control, stock takes, and supplier relationships
  • Ensure accurate reporting and adherence to company procedures

Sales & Marketing

  • Drive revenue growth and achieve sales targets
  • Develop relationships with local businesses and community partners
  • Assist in planning and executing wine tastings, special events, and promotions
  • Work alongside management to grow the venue's profile and guest base

Requirements

  • Minimum 3–5 years' experience in a senior hospitality management role
  • Experience in wine bars, restaurants, boutique hotels, or premium hospitality environments
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Sound financial acumen and stock management experience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of wine and beverage service is highly advantageous
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays
  • Computer literacy and experience with POS systems

Remuneration

Competitive salary package based on experience, including performance incentives.
