Full job description

About the role

iOT Voice is a growing South African telecommunications and technology company providing cloud voice, VoIP, outbound dialling, automation and related technology solutions.

We are looking for a young, technically minded person who wants to build a career in technology.

This is not a traditional software developer position, and we are not looking for someone who already knows everything. We are looking for someone with a basic technical foundation, a strong ability to learn, and the curiosity to figure things out.

You will work directly with our team across several areas of the business — from AI-assisted development and APIs to VoIP platforms, databases, websites, integrations and technical support.

A large part of the role will involve learning how to use AI as a practical development and problem-solving tool. You do not need to be an expert programmer, but you should understand enough about technology and coding to work with AI tools, understand what they are producing, troubleshoot problems and progressively become more capable.

What you’ll be doing

Your work will include:

  • Using AI tools to help develop, improve and troubleshoot our internal platforms and customer solutions.
  • Working with APIs and system integrations between different platforms.
  • Basic coding and scripting, particularly JavaScript.
  • Working with databases, data and application logic.
  • Helping develop and maintain our websites and web-based customer portals.
  • Assisting with our VoIP, SIP, cloud PBX and outbound dialling platforms.
  • Investigating technical problems and helping customers and staff resolve them.
  • Testing new functionality and identifying bugs or problems.
  • Helping automate repetitive processes within the business.
  • Learning how different systems communicate with each other and helping us connect them.
  • Working on new technology projects as the company develops new products and services.

The role will be varied. One day you may be troubleshooting a voice platform, the next working with an API, improving a website, testing an AI voice solution or helping build a new feature.

What we're looking for

You don't need years of experience, but you should have some technical foundation.

Ideally, you will have some knowledge or experience with:

  • JavaScript or another programming/scripting language.
  • Basic HTML/CSS and web technologies.
  • Databases and basic SQL concepts.
  • APIs, JSON and how systems exchange information.
  • Websites, hosting or web applications.
  • General computer networking concepts.
  • AI tools such as ChatGPT or AI coding assistants.

Experience with VoIP, SIP, Linux, cloud servers or telecommunications would be a bonus, but is not required. We can teach you.

Formal qualifications are welcome, but a degree is not a requirement.

The person we're really looking for

More important than qualifications is how you think.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Is naturally curious about technology.
  • Enjoys figuring out how things work.
  • Will Google, research, experiment and use AI to find solutions instead of immediately saying, “I don't know how.”
  • Is comfortable learning new systems.
  • Can think logically and troubleshoot problems.
  • Takes ownership of a task.
  • Is willing to ask questions and learn from mistakes.
  • Can communicate properly with customers and colleagues.
  • Wants responsibility as their skills develop.
  • Wants to grow with a company rather than simply fill a job.

You don't need to arrive knowing everything. In fact, we expect you won't.

What we want is someone who can say:

“I haven't done that before, but give me a chance and I'll figure it out.”

What you'll have the opportunity to learn

This role will expose you to real-world technology including:

AI development APIs JavaScript databases automation VoIP SIP cloud PBX outbound diallers Linux/cloud infrastructure web applications system integrations customer support telecommunications

As your skills and responsibilities grow, we want the position — and your earning potential — to grow with you.

Salary

R10,000 – R15,000 per month, depending on your current skills, knowledge and experience.

This is a junior growth position. We are deliberately looking for someone at the beginning of their career who wants an opportunity to develop into a much broader technical role.

How to apply

Please send us your CV, but we'd also like you to tell us briefly:

What have you built, fixed, automated or figured out using technology?

It doesn't need to be something you did professionally. It could be a website, a personal project, something you coded, an API you experimented with, a server you configured, something you built using AI, or simply a technical problem you were determined enough to solve.

We are interested in what you can become, not only what is already on your CV.
