Full job description

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Chemist Intern to join our laboratory team in Randfontein. The successful candidate will gain practical experience in chemical and analytical laboratory testing, quality control, laboratory safety, equipment operation, and laboratory documentation.

This opportunity is suited to a recent graduate or entry-level candidate who is passionate about chemistry, analytical testing and laboratory operations.

REQUIREMENTS

National Diploma, BSc, or BTech in Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry.

0–1 year of relevant laboratory experience.

Good understanding of laboratory safety procedures and practices.

Ability to work accurately and maintain thorough laboratory records.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Computer literacy

Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a laboratory team.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Work according to established safety standards and immediately stop or report any activity or work that could result in an accident.

Perform testing and achieve accurate results for:

*Colour

*Moisture

*Dielectric Strength

*Acidity

*Furanic

*DGA samples

Correctly and safely dispose of tested oil and other laboratory waste.

Adhere to all PPE and laboratory safety requirements.

Adhere to Laboratory Manager requirements, procedures and instructions.

Report problems, ideas, equipment issues and stock shortages to the Laboratory Manager.

Comply with all reasonable, safe and lawful instructions provided by the employer or delegated managers.

Utilise a wide variety of laboratory equipment, including **gas chromatographs** and other analytical instruments.

Monitor and observe results from the laboratory Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) programme.

Maintain accurate and thorough records of laboratory procedures, testing processes and results.

Ensure laboratory activities comply with applicable government regulations and requirements.

Prepare analytical worksheets, test results and laboratory reports.

Perform complex and difficult laboratory analyses under appropriate supervision.

Assist the Laboratory Manager in coordinating laboratory activities and operations.

Assist with the development, modification, verification and validation of laboratory methods.

Troubleshoot, clean and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies.

Monitor laboratory stock and supply levels and report shortages.

Use computers and a variety of laboratory and office software programmes.

Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.

Promote safety and conduct yourself in accordance with all safety guidelines at all times.

Maintain a clean, organised and safe laboratory workplace always.

Perform any other reasonable laboratory-related duties assigned by the Laboratory Manager..

  • Randfontein, Gauteng: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
