ROLE OVERVIEW

The Quality Assistant supports testing, compliance and quality control (QC) protocols to ensure laboratory operations meet strict regulatory and safety standards. The role assist with equipment maintenance, sample preparation, documentation and the enforcement of good laboratory practices (GLP)


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Inspection and Testing:

  • Conduct regular physical inspections of raw materials, in-process goods, and finished products
  • Operating laboratory precision tools such as automated equipment and calipers
  • Verification of returns from trade/customers

Compliance Monitoring:

  • Verify that all production staff follow internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Ensure adherence to external regulations, such ISO and Food Safety standards and/or FDA requirements
  • Deploy continuous improvement and best practice methods

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed logs of all quality checks and write formal reports on deviations
  • Test results, non-compliance issues and control on nonconforming products to prevent unintended use
  • Maintenance of product retention areas
  • Daily reporting of quality incidents, FTR, expiry dates etc.

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Enforcing SOP and product specifications
  • MS Office packages proficient
  • Strong mathematical skills

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Matric
  • National Diploma in Food Technology, Biotechnology or relevant qualification
  • Bachelors' Degree or Advanced Diploma in Food, Quality will be advantageous
  • 1 – 2 years proven experience in quality and laboratory environment
  • 2 - 4 years food safety experience in a liquor manufacturing environment (FMCG)
  • Knowledge of legal compliance requirements such as ISO standards and GMP
