What the job involves

You’d typically work in a lab setting, helping engineers or scientists evaluate plastic materials. Common tasks include:

  • Preparing and testing plastic samples (strength, flexibility, durability)
  • Using equipment like spectrometers, tensile testers, and microscopes
  • Recording and analyzing data from experiments
  • Ensuring materials meet quality and safety standards
  • Assisting in developing new plastic formulations or improving existing ones

Skills you need

  • Basic understanding of chemistry or materials science (especially polymers)
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Familiarity with lab equipment and safety procedures
  • Data recording and reporting skills
  • Problem-solving mindset

Education & training

  • A diploma or degree in polymer technology, chemistry, or materials science
