About the Role
We are seeking a High School Laboratory Assistant to support the science department by managing the laboratory environment, assisting with experiments, and ensuring safety procedures are followed. This role is essential in facilitating hands-on learning experiences and promoting scientific inquiry among students.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain laboratory equipment and materials for experiments.
• Assist teachers in conducting laboratory experiments and demonstrations.
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols and the proper disposal of hazardous materials.
• Support students in understanding laboratory procedures and protocols during practical sessions.
• Organize and manage the inventory of laboratory supplies, including reagents and equipment.
• Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments.
• Assist in the development of practical lesson plans and assessments related to laboratory work.
• Maintain a clean and orderly laboratory space, ensuring it is ready for instructional use.

Requirements

• A relevant qualification in a scientific field or equivalent experience in a laboratory setting.
• Demonstrable experience working in a school laboratory environment is highly advantageous.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in managing lab supplies and equipment.
• Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with students and staff.
• Proficiency in applying safety practices and protocols within a laboratory environment.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a teaching team.
• Basic understanding of biological, chemical, and physical science principles is preferred.
• Chemical handling and storage training

Preferred Qualifications

• Grade 12/National Senior Certificate
• Familiarity with laboratory safety regulations and best practices.
• Experience with digital lab technologies and software for educational purposes.
• Additional training or certification in first aid or laboratory safety is a plus.
• Qualification in Occupational Health and Safety
• Fire safety and emergency response training
• Experience assisting in curriculum development or practical lesson implementation is desirable.
• Computer literacy
