(Afrikaans)

Requirements

  • Relevant three-year tertiary qualification, majoring in Afrikaans or
linguistics, with English at least at first-year university level or a

postgraduate translation diploma (specialising in Afrikaans and

English)

  • 2 - 5 years’ experience in technical and legal translation
  • Computer literacy: Proficiency in Microsoft 365
  • Understanding of local government terminology
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure
Key Performance Areas

  • Responsible for performing translation tasks and activities; and
coordinate translation and interpreting requests when required

  • Conduct research on best practices to ensure translation accuracy
  • Keep abreast of the latest developments in language practice
  • Conduct editing and proofreading in Afrikaans and English in line
with

rules of grammar and style to ensure consistent use of terminology

  • Provide specialised advice to clients on language issues,
terminology,

best practice and the City's Language Policy

  • Develop terminology in Afrikaans
  • Contribute to in-house language-related guides
  • Assist in promoting multilingualism and language awareness in the
City of Cape Town
