The Rencken Centre is a Christian-based home for high-functioning adults with intellectual challenges, located in Wartburg, KZN (35 km from Pietermaritzburg). Established 29 years ago, the Centre is a registered NPO.

About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate, reliable House Mother to join our team in a live-in position. This role is central to daily life at the Centre and is best suited to someone who views care as a vocation rather than simply employment.

We encourage applications from individuals with experience in residential supervision, nursing, social work, disability support management, or similar fields. This role is best suited to candidates with leadership and organisational skills, as it focuses on supervising the home and its operations as well as providing direct personal care to the residents.

The Rencken Centre is not a medical facility. Nursing or medical qualifications are not required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent, nurturing care and pastoral support to up to 20 adult residents
  • Support residents with daily living activities when required
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and homely environment
  • Plan and facilitate meaningful daily activities
  • Supervise support staff
  • Execute administrative tasks effectively
  • Communicate effectively with families, guardians, and the Centre Manager

About You

  • Experience in a similar residential, caregiving, or house-parent role
  • Management experience
  • Emotionally mature, dependable, and calm under pressure
  • Completed Matric - required
  • Preferably some tertiary education
  • Valid First Aid accreditation (preferred or willing to do training)
  • Valid driver’s license - required
  • Valid PDP would be advantageous
  • Training and/or experience with intellectually impaired persons would be advantageous
