Medical Doctor (Intern) - Bisho

Position Overview

The Medical Doctor will provide professional medical and clinical support services at a healthcare facility identified by the Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering quality clinical services, supporting healthcare operations, maintaining accurate medical records, and ensuring that all services are delivered in accordance with applicable healthcare legislation, professional standards, policies, and procedures.

The position may also involve medico-legal and clinical support activities, depending on the requirements of the assigned facility and Department.

Key Responsibilities

The Medical Doctor will be responsible for providing medical consultations, clinical assessments, diagnosis and appropriate management of patients within their scope of practice. The incumbent will provide appropriate treatment, referrals and follow-up care while maintaining a high standard of patient care.

The Medical Doctor will assist with clinical support activities and, where required, medico-legal assessments, documentation and related healthcare services. This may include reviewing clinical information, preparing medical reports and providing professional input on matters requiring medical expertise.

The incumbent will maintain complete, accurate and confidential patient records and ensure that all clinical documentation complies with applicable legislation, professional requirements and facility procedures.

The Medical Doctor will work collaboratively with nurses, allied healthcare professionals, administrative personnel and other relevant stakeholders to support effective service delivery and continuity of care.

The incumbent will comply with applicable Department of Health policies, clinical protocols, occupational health and safety requirements, ethical standards and professional regulations. The Medical Doctor will also participate in relevant meetings, clinical activities, quality-improvement initiatives and other duties reasonably associated with the position.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

The successful candidate must:

• Hold a recognised MBChB qualification from an accredited institution.
• Be eligible and legally authorised to work in South Africa.
• Meet all applicable professional registration and practice requirements.
• Have no disciplinary findings or restrictions that may negatively affect the delivery of the required services.
• Demonstrate an interest in or experience in medico-legal services, clinical support, healthcare services or a related field.
• Be willing and available to work at a healthcare facility identified by the Department.
• Demonstrate professional conduct, integrity, confidentiality and commitment to patient-centred service delivery.
• Be able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Preferred Candidates

Preference will be given to:

• Persons with disabilities, in support of applicable employment equity and inclusive employment objectives.
• A Medical Doctor at Medical Intern level, where applicable to the requirements of the assignment.
• Candidates with previous exposure to medico-legal services, clinical support programmes or similar healthcare environments.

Professional Conduct

The Medical Doctor is expected to maintain the highest standards of professional and ethical conduct at all times. The incumbent must comply with all applicable legislation, professional standards, Department of Health requirements, facility policies and relevant codes of conduct.

Working Conditions

The Medical Doctor will be required to work at a facility designated by the Department of Health and must be prepared to comply with the operational requirements and working arrangements of the assigned facility. Working hours and service requirements will be determined in accordance with the Department's operational needs and applicable conditions of service.
