Full job description

Our Pretoria branch is seeking a The Health & Safety Officer who will provide support and guidance to employees and management, ensure compliance with applicable health and safety legislation and company procedures, and promote a safe working environment across the workshop, offices and customer sites.

Key Responsibilities

Health & Safety Operations

  • Ensure all Health & Safety policies, procedures and Safe Working Procedures are current, communicated and effectively implemented.
  • Prepare and maintain site-specific Health & Safety plans, risk assessments and related documentation for projects.
  • Take responsibility for HSE management on customer sites when required.
  • Ensure all project and site safety files are complete, accurate and maintained in accordance with company and client requirements.
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections and identify potential hazards, unsafe conditions and non-compliance.
  • Monitor corrective actions and follow up to ensure identified risks are appropriately addressed.
  • Conduct monthly inspections of portable electrical equipment, ladders, safety harnesses and other applicable safety equipment.
  • Conduct monthly workshop Health & Safety inspections.
  • Ensure first aid boxes are inspected, maintained and replenished as required.
  • Arrange employee medical examinations/medical surveillance where required.
  • Assist with the implementation and monitoring of emergency procedures and preparedness.
  • Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, injuries and near misses.
  • Compile and maintain the required accident and incident reports.
  • Identify root causes and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
  • Monitor the implementation of corrective actions following incidents and inspections.
  • Maintain accurate HSE records and documentation.

Requirements:

  • Relevant qualification in Occupational Health & Safety / Health & Safety Management.
  • Relevant Health & Safety experience, preferably within an engineering, manufacturing, industrial or construction environment.
  • Knowledge of South African Occupational Health & Safety legislation and regulations.
  • Experience in conducting risk assessments, inspections and incident investigations.
  • Experience with compiling and maintaining Health & Safety files.
  • Experience working on customer/project sites will be advantageous.
  • Valid driver's licence may be required.
  • Good administrative and organisational skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Ability to identify hazards and implement practical corrective actions.
