Full job description

The Laboratory Technician is responsible for conducting nPOC (near point of care) testing and external quality control, and data management.

Technical Work Responsibilities

  • Conduct TB nPOC testing on sputum samples and tongue swabs.
  • Perform quality assurance related testing and processes for the nPOC program; recording and reporting thereof.
  • Ensure equipment are cleaned and maintained according to manufacturer’s Instructions.
  • Manage stock of nPOC test kits and consumables.
  • Adhere to prescribed infection control measures.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and orderly workspace.
  • Work collaboratively with the facility TB nurse, refer all clients that are eligible for referral, and work with the laboratory to ensure seamless specimen and results pathways.
  • Accurately records, captures information on the data base for reporting.
  • Accurately completes and manages a variety of reports as required by regulators.

Education

  • Certificate in Medical Laboratory technician.

Advantageous

  • GCP Certificate.
  • A diploma or degree.
  • Clinical or research experience in the health system.
  • Registration with HPCSA as a Medical/ Lab Technician.

Experience

  • Six months experience in specimen processing.

Requirements

  • Understanding of the health system.
  • Driver’s License.
  • Own Vehicle.
  • Efficient in Microsoft office, Word, Excel and Spreadsheet.
  • Fluet in the local languages.
