Position: Full-Time Dental Assistant (Chairside)

IMPORTANT: PREVIOUS CHAIRSIDE DENTAL ASSISTING EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

West Med Medical & Dental Practice is looking for a skilled, professional and experienced Chairside Dental Assistant to join our dental team at our Majik Forest branch.

This is a hands-on clinical position working directly alongside the dentist during dental procedures. It is NOT an administrative, receptionist, personal assistant or general assistant position.

Only candidates with relevant dental assisting experience should apply.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct chairside assistance to the dentist during examinations, treatments and dental procedures.
• Prepare dental instruments, materials and equipment before procedures.
• Perform four-handed dentistry, including instrument transfer, suction and retraction.
• Assist with dental procedures such as fillings, extractions, root canal treatments, crowns and other general dental treatments.
• Follow infection prevention and control protocols, including cleaning, disinfecting, sterilising and preparing instruments.
• Prepare and maintain dental treatment rooms between patients.
• Assist with patient preparation, positioning and comfort during procedures.
• Maintain dental stock, instruments and consumables.
• Ensure the dental surgery remains clean, organised and ready for patient care.
• Assist with clinical recordkeeping and other dental-related duties when required.

Minimum Requirements – Essential

• Previous practical chairside dental assisting experience is compulsory.
• Relevant dental assisting qualification.
• Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), where required for the position.
• Experience assisting a dentist during actual dental treatments and procedures.
• Good knowledge of dental instruments, materials and sterilisation procedures.
• Familiarity with four-handed dentistry techniques.
• Excellent communication and patient care skills.
• Ability to work efficiently in a busy dental practice.
• Professional, reliable, organised and able to work well in a team.

Please Note

We are specifically recruiting an experienced clinical Dental Assistant who can work next to the dentist and assist during procedures.

Experience as a receptionist, administrative assistant, personal assistant, medical receptionist or general assistant does not qualify as relevant chairside dental assisting experience.
