As a Laboratory Technician in the Microbiology department at IDEXX South Africa, you will have the opportunity to contribute your expertise to our dynamic team and play a key role in advancing our mission. In This Role:

  • You will receive, prepare, and access veterinary samples for laboratory analysis and testing.

  • You will process clinical samples for the identification of bacteria and fungi using automated and manual methods.

  • You will be involved in the identification of bacteria and fungi using conventional and automated methods.

  • You will perform variety of customer service activities for internal and external customers, providing information, resolving issues and ensuring customer satisfaction. Responding to customer phone and other communications, addressing questions / issues / problems / concerns, etc.

  • You will have a workload which often includes samples from livestock and exotic species through regular zoo screening.

  • From day one, you'll have full autonomy in your work, but you'll also get full support when you need it.


What You Need to Succeed:

  • National Diploma/Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • SAVC registration (Registered Veterinary Technologist) is mandatory.

  • Min 3 years’ professional experience in a similar position or veterinary practice desired.

  • You will have practical experience in Urinalysis, Parasitology and / or Microbiology.

  • You are very comfortable with performing automated instrumentation or manual methods.

  • You are someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment

  • You are able to read, understand and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures.

  • You have a positive attitude and love to bring this energy into the lab every day to support your colleagues, whether working independently or as a team contributor.

  • You are able to prioritize and multi-task, you demonstrate excellent attention to detail on the job and you can work reliably and precisely.

  • Reliable and dependable attendance is an essential function of the position. Adherence to attendance-related policies and expectations is critical to this position.


Schedule:

  • This is a full-time permanent position (40h/week), willingness to work shifts and participate in the Saturday rotation (every second Saturday)
