Full job description

We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Health & Safety Officer in the Residential Construction industry to ensure a safe, compliant working environment across our operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and managing workplace risks, monitoring compliance, and driving a strong health and safety culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and monitor health and safety policies, procedures and standards.

  • Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and applicable regulations.

  • Conduct workplace inspections, risk assessments and safety audits.

  • Identify hazards and implement appropriate corrective and preventative actions.

  • Investigate incidents, accidents and near misses and ensure appropriate follow-up.

  • Maintain accurate health and safety records, registers and compliance documentation.

  • Conduct safety inductions, toolbox talks and health and safety awareness training.

  • Monitor the use of PPE and adherence to safe working procedures.

  • Assist with emergency preparedness, evacuation procedures and drills.

  • Monitor contractor compliance with health and safety requirements.

  • Track and close out corrective actions arising from inspections, audits and incidents.

  • Promote a proactive safety culture across the organisation.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience as a Health & Safety Officer or in a similar role.

  • Current SACPCMP registration is essential.

  • Relevant qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, SHEQ, SAMTRAC or a related field.

  • Sound knowledge of South African occupational health and safety legislation and regulations.

  • Experience conducting risk assessments, safety inspections and incident investigations.

  • Strong administrative, reporting and record-keeping skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
