About the Company
Zibuke OnCall is a unit within the Services Division of Zibuke Africa. We help homeowners and corporate customers manage the cost of unexpected maintenance with affordable subscription packages. For homeowners we provide individual property coverage. For corporate customers we provide portfolio coverage for commercial properties, rental units, offices, and retail spaces. We operate across South Africa and are growing rapidly.
We do not use traditional interviews. We believe you should be judged by what you can do, not by how well you talk about yourself. Every technical role begins with a practical skills verification and an Accountability Assessment. This is a real work proving period where you demonstrate your skill, your reliability, and your commitment to quality.
Our carpentry department is part of a larger home services company that also offers plumbing, electrical, appliance repair, and handyman services. Our carpenters often work alongside other trades to deliver complete solutions for our customers. The carpentry department handles everything from door repairs and kitchen installations to roofing work and structural carpentry for both homeowners and corporate customers.
Zibuke OnCall is looking for a licensed, trade-tested Carpenter to join our Carpentry Department. You must hold a valid Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal) in Carpentry and Joinery. You must also have the practical experience to back up your qualifications. This is not a learn on the job position. We require fully qualified, trade-tested carpenters who can measure, cut, assemble, and install carpentry work independently to a high standard.
As a carpenter you will work across both customer groups. On any given day you may be repairing a kitchen cupboard at a family home in the morning and fitting new doors at a corporate office in the afternoon. This variety builds your experience across residential and commercial carpentry.
This role begins with a practical skills verification, followed by the Carpenter Accountability Assessment. This is a period during which you complete real carpentry jobs while we confirm your work quality, your reliability, and your customer service standards. You are on salary from Day 1. Your experience and qualifications determine your starting salary within the R12,000 to R18,000 range.
We provide the tools, the parts, the materials, and the customer bookings. As part of a multi-trade home services company, you will also work alongside plumbers, electricians, and handymen to deliver complete solutions for our customers. You prove your skill through real results.
Key Responsibilities
Diagnose and complete carpentry repairs and installations for both residential and commercial customers.
Repair and replace doors, door frames, skirting boards, architraves, and window frames.
Install and repair kitchen cabinets, built-in cupboards, and countertops.
Install and repair ceiling boards, cornices, and partitioning systems.
Repair and replace wooden flooring, decking, and balustrades.
Perform roofing carpentry including roof truss repairs, batten replacement, and fascia board installation.
Install and repair shelving systems, wardrobe units, and custom joinery.
Repair structural timber work including beams, posts, and framing.
Complete every job efficiently and professionally with no callbacks and no complaints.
Treat every customer's property with care and respect.
Take full ownership of your work with no shortcuts and no excuses.
Complete job documentation, photographs, and customer sign off for every job.
Maintain your tools, your company vehicle where provided, and your work area.
Requirements
Valid Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal) in Carpentry and Joinery. This is non-negotiable.
Minimum 2 years of post trade test experience in residential and commercial carpentry.
Valid South African ID.
Valid driver's licence. Code B minimum is required.
Own basic hand tools and power tools. Specialised tools are provided by the company.
Fluent in English and at least one other South African language.
Reliable, punctual, and committed to finishing what you start.
Strong customer service ethic.
Must be willing to be assigned to the workshop or depot closest to you.
Clear criminal record. A background check will be conducted.
Physically fit and able to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions.
Own transport to and from the depot.
Preferred Qualifications
Additional certifications in kitchen and bathroom renovations. Cabinet making and fine joinery experience. Aluminium and PVC window and door installation experience. Painting as a complementary skill. Supervisory or team leadership experience.
What We Look For
Trade Qualification and Licensing: You hold a valid Red Seal Trade Test Certificate in Carpentry and Joinery. When you say you are a qualified carpenter, you have the papers and the experience to prove it.
Technical Skill: You can measure, cut, assemble, and install carpentry work independently. When you look at a broken door frame or a damaged kitchen cabinet, you know exactly what to do and how to do it right the first time.
Reliability: You keep your word. When you say you will be at a customer's property at 9 AM, you arrive at 9 AM. When you start a job, you finish it.
Pride in Workmanship: You take pride in doing a job properly. Your cuts are straight, your joints are tight, your finishes are smooth, and you stand behind every job you complete.
Customer Focus: You understand that you work in people's homes and corporate premises. You are polite, respectful, and communicative. You leave every property cleaner than you found it.
Accountability: You own your work. You do not take shortcuts, you do not make excuses, and you do not blame materials or conditions. If there is a problem, you own it and you fix it.
Benefits and Compensation
Competitive salary depends on experience and qualifications. All materials and specialised tools are supplied by the company. Fuel card or fuel reimbursement for field jobs. Structured hours from Wednesday to Sunday with Monday and Tuesday off. Clear career path with opportunities to progress into Senior Carpenter, Team Leader, and Carpentry Department Manager roles. Accountability based culture where your earnings and career growth reflect your real contribution. Ongoing trade development and advancement support.
How to Apply
Your application must include the following:
A copy of your valid Red Seal Trade Test Certificate in Carpentry and Joinery.
A copy of your South African ID.
A brief summary of your carpentry experience including the types of work you have done, your years of experience, and the types of systems you are proficient with.
No interview. No CV screening. Your Trade Test Certificate gets you in the door. Your real work decides your future.
