Full job description
Key responsibilities:
- Respond rapidly to medical emergencies involving passengers and crew.
- Perform patient assessments, triage and vital-sign monitoring.
- Provide advanced/basic life support according to your scope of practice.
- Treat trauma, injuries, burns, allergic reactions, respiratory problems and other acute conditions.
- Assist the ship's doctors and nurses with patient care and medical procedures.
- Stabilise critically ill or injured patients before further treatment or evacuation.
- Administer medications and treatments within your authorised scope.
- Operate and maintain emergency medical equipment, including defibrillators and oxygen equipment.
- Assist with medical evacuations and transfers when required.
- Respond to incidents throughout the ship, including cabins, restaurants, pools and public areas.
- Maintain accurate patient records and medical documentation.
- Participate in emergency drills and the ship's muster/emergency response procedures.
- Follow infection-control, occupational-health and maritime safety procedures.
- Maintain readiness of emergency equipment and medical supplies.
- Work closely with the bridge, security and other departments during major emergencies.
- Provide professional, compassionate care to passengers and crew from different countries and cultures.
- Work shifts, including nights, weekends and public holidays, while onboard.
Requirements:
- Recognised paramedic qualification and registration/licensing appropriate to the position.
- Current CPR/BLS; ALS/ACLS is often required or highly advantageous.
- Several years of clinical/emergency experience.
- Strong trauma and emergency-management skills.
- Excellent English communication.
- Ability to work independently and as part of an international medical team.
- Valid passport and ability to pass the cruise line's medical/fitness assessment.
- Ability to live and work onboard for the full contract.
- Previous cruise-ship or maritime medical experience can be an advantage.
Pay: R35 000,00 - R50 000,00 per month
