Full job description

Mary Help of Christians is an Independent Catholic Primary School (Grades R to 7) which serves 600 children. The school and has a rich legacy of providing quality values-based education over many decades.

The Board of Governors seeks to appoint a suitably qualified Intermediate Phase Educator as from 1 January 2026 for grade 4-7 The position is a multigrade position and the successful candidate will be expected to teach Afrikaans second language, LO, PSW, Technology and PE.

Requirements:

1. A recognised Primary School Intermediate/Senior Phase teaching qualification

2. SACE registration and a SAPS clearance certificate

3. Relevant teaching experience in the Intermediate/Senior Phase

4. CAPS trained with sound knowledge in the management of the curriculum; lesson plans, assessment, moderation, subject analysis, target-setting, intervention strategies and remediation

5. Computer literate with the ability to integrate e-learning into the teaching programme

6. Ability to teach and communicate proficiently through the school’s English medium of instruction

- Conversational Xhosa and/or Afrikaans will be advantageous

7. Good administrative and organisational competency

8. Good classroom management skills

9. Good written and verbal communication skills

10. Good inter-personal and intra-personal skills

In addition to the above requirements the candidate must show a willingness to:

- Actively support and promote the Catholic ethos of the school

- Contribute to the extra-curricular life of the school

- Offer remedial support to learners

- Serve on various portfolio committees

- Assist with the fundraising and pastoral care projects of the school

- Be involved in certain requisite responsibilities e.g. playground duty, First Aid, After-School Supervision etc

- Commit to ongoing training and formation

This position will be remunerated at a competitive ‘cost-to-organisation’ salary package in accordance with your qualifications and experience.
