Duties will include, but will not be limited to:

Providing day-to-day financial support and information to the Chair of the Department and the management committee.
-
Coordinating and managing the Department's operational budgets, including the mainstream budget and all third stream income projects.
-
The overall management, administration, planning and execution of all financial activities in the Department (budgets, approvals, accounting, reports, research funds).
-
Overseeing HR functions (appointments, performance appraisals, promotions, training and mentoring activities, extraordinary appointments, and recommendation reports).
-
Financial planning and administration, including compiling annual departmental budgets, allocation of funds, and approval of financial transactions, among others.
-
Managing buildings and assets.
-
Management and financial support of ad hoc HR contracts.
-
Supporting managing FMS card access for staff, students, and visitors, as well as SUN IDs and usernames.
-
Risk and security management and support of building management.
-
Managing and scheduling support staff work allocation and ongoing/annual performance assessments/evaluation.

Performing ad hoc duties as necessary.
Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes
-
Bachelor of Commerce in Financial Management, Bachelor of Accounting, or Bachelor of Business Administration with a focus on finance.
-
More than five years' proven general management experience at junior to mid-management level.
-
More than ten years' proven experience in financial administration and management.
-
More than three years' proven staff management experience.
-
Proficiency and confidence in using Stellenbosch University's financial and administrative systems (e.g. SUNFin/COR/FMS/SUNid/Planon//STEMLearn/SUNStudent).
-
Exceptional financial, administrative and time management skills, with a strong ability to organise, prioritise and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
-
Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills suited to diverse academic and professional audiences.
-
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
-
Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy, and the ability to review financial and administrative content critically for reconciliation and audit control.

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to exercise sound judgement, to work independently and to function effectively under pressure.
-
Proficiency in English and one or more of South Africa's other official languages.

Proficiency in a range of digital tools and platforms, including:

Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
