Full job description

Honey & Dora is looking for an experienced, hands on General Manager who can take full responsibility for running the entire business.

This is not only a hospitality management position. We need someone who can lead the team, manage operations, control finances, grow revenue and protect the Honey & Dora brand.

Honey & Dora is a proudly LGBTQ+ focused venue. Our manager does not need to identify as LGBTQ+, but must genuinely understand, respect and champion the community. This includes creating a safe and welcoming space, working confidently with drag performers and queer entertainers, and ensuring every guest and staff member is treated with dignity.

Key responsibilities

  • Taking full ownership of daily business operations
  • Managing both the lounge and rooftop
  • Recruiting, training, scheduling and leading staff
  • Managing performance, discipline, attendance and workplace culture
  • Controlling stock, ordering, supplier relationships and wastage
  • Overseeing cash ups, expenses, budgets and operational profitability
  • Driving revenue through service, events, promotions and strong management
  • Managing entertainers, DJs, performers and event logistics
  • Maintaining exceptional customer service and resolving complaints
  • Protecting the safety and inclusivity of LGBTQ+ guests and staff
  • Ensuring the venue remains compliant with licensing, health and safety requirements
  • Reporting accurately to the directors on sales, costs, staffing and performance
  • Identifying problems early and implementing practical solutions
  • Maintaining the venue, equipment and overall guest experience

What we are looking for

  • Proven experience running a hospitality or entertainment business
  • Strong financial and commercial understanding
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills
  • Experience managing stock, budgets, suppliers and targets
  • Confidence working in a fast paced nightlife environment
  • A genuine understanding of LGBTQ+ culture and inclusive hospitality
  • Respect for drag, queer entertainment and the community Honey & Dora serves
  • High levels of integrity, accountability and reliability
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays
  • A decisive leader who takes ownership without needing constant supervision

The successful candidate will treat Honey & Dora like a business, not a social playground. They must understand that creating a fun atmosphere requires serious operational discipline behind the scenes.

This role is for someone who can lead from the floor, control the numbers, grow the brand and make Honey & Dora the safest, strongest and most exciting LGBTQ+ venue in Cape Town.

Pay: R20 000,00 - R30 000,00 per month
