Job Summary

We are looking for a reliable, hardworking, and customer-focused Canteen Cook / Worker to join our team in a corporate building canteen. The successful candidate will assist the Head Cook with daily food preparation, cooking, serving, stock management, and maintaining high standards of hygiene and customer service.

The ideal candidate must have previous kitchen or canteen experience, be able to prepare lunch meals and sandwiches efficiently, and work well in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Cook with preparing and cooking daily meals
• Prepare sandwiches, salads, snacks, and other canteen food items
• Serve customers professionally and provide excellent customer service
• Take food and beverage orders accurately
• Pack, label, and stock food items and supplies
• Ensure food is stored and handled according to health and safety standards
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen and serving areas
• Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment when required
• Monitor stock levels and report shortages to management
• Assist with receiving and organizing deliveries
• Follow kitchen procedures, food handling regulations, and workplace safety standards
• Support the team during busy lunch periods and corporate events if required

Minimum Requirements

• Matric / Grade 12 certificate
• Previous work experience in a kitchen, canteen, café, restaurant, or food service environment
• Understanding of food handling, kitchen hygiene, and cleanliness standards
• Ability to cook basic lunch meals and prepare sandwiches
• Fluent in English (spoken and written)
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong customer service skills
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
• Reliable, punctual, and professional
• Physically fit and able to stand for long periods
• Ability to work well in a team environment

Advantageous

• Food Safety or Hygiene Certificate
• Experience working in a corporate canteen or similar environment
• Basic cashier or point-of-sale experience

Working Hours

• Monday to Friday [Insert Hours]
• Occasional overtime may be required depending on business needs
