Takeaway Chef – Wood-Fired Pizza & Smash Burgers

Die Meelhuis Pizzas & Smash Burgers is looking for a reliable, professional and hardworking Takeaway Chef to join our team at our new takeaway shop in Pretoria.

We are a fast-paced kitchen specialising in wood-fired and gas-fired Gozney pizzas and smash burgers. We are looking for someone who is passionate about food, takes pride in their work and understands the importance of consistency, cleanliness and excellent service.

The Role

This is a cross-trained kitchen position. The successful candidate will be required to work across both our pizza and smash burger stations.

You will be responsible for:

• Preparing and cooking wood-fired and gas-fired pizzas using Gozney ovens
• Preparing and cooking smash burgers on a flat-top grill
• Preparing ingredients and completing daily kitchen prep
• Working with pizza dough, toppings, sauces and other ingredients
• Cooking burgers, onions, cheese and other menu items to our required standards
• Following recipes, portion sizes and cooking procedures consistently
• Maintaining speed and quality during busy service periods
• Operating kitchen equipment safely and correctly
• Keeping the kitchen, equipment, preparation areas and workstations clean and organised
• Completing opening and closing cleaning duties
• Following food safety, hygiene and health regulations
• Receiving, storing and rotating stock correctly
• Assisting with stock counts and daily kitchen organisation
• Minimising food waste
• Communicating effectively with front-of-house staff and other kitchen team members
• Providing a professional and positive attitude at all times
• Being willing to learn and work across different areas of the kitchen

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

• Previous experience working in a takeaway, restaurant or professional kitchen
• Experience with pizza, burgers or fast-paced food service will be advantageous
• A strong understanding of kitchen hygiene and cleanliness
• The ability to work quickly and efficiently under pressure
• Good communication skills
• The ability to understand and communicate in both Afrikaans and English
• A professional appearance and attitude
• Strong attention to detail
• The ability to follow recipes, systems and instructions
• Good teamwork and communication
• Reliability and punctuality
• A willingness to learn and be trained in both pizza and smash burger preparation
• Own reliable transport is essential
• The ability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays when required
