Job Title: Waiter – Food & Beverage Service

Location: Lord Charles Hotel, Somerset West, Cape Town, South Africa
Department: Food & Beverage / Restaurant
Reports to: Restaurant Manager / F&B Manager

Position Summary

As a Waiter at the Lord Charles Hotel, you will be the face of our hospitality experience, delivering warm, professional, and attentive service to all guests. You will ensure that every guest receives timely, accurate and courteous dining service in the hotel’s restaurant and food & beverage outlets, contributing to memorable guest experiences every day.

Key ResponsibilitiesGuest Service & Interaction

  • Greet guests courteously as they arrive, present menus, and provide detailed information on menu items, specials and beverage offerings.
  • Take accurate food and beverage orders, paying attention to guest preferences and special dietary requests.
  • Communicate orders clearly and promptly to kitchen and bar staff via the POS system.
  • Serve food and beverages in line with service standards, ensuring proper presentation and timing.
  • Check on guests during service to anticipate needs and resolve concerns quickly and professionally.

Table Presentation & Maintenance

  • Prepare and maintain clean, well-set tables with appropriate linen, cutlery, glassware and condiments.
  • Ensure dining areas are clean, organised and welcoming before, during and after service.
  • Reset tables quickly and correctly following guest departure in preparation for the next seating.

Operational Support

  • Handle guest bills, process payments accurately and courteously.
  • Maintain awareness of stock levels and assist in restocking supplies and service items as needed.
  • Participate in opening and closing duties for the restaurant as required.
  • Adhere to health, hygiene and safety standards at all times.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Previous experience in hospitality, restaurant or hotel food & beverage service is preferred (e.g., similar waiter roles).
  • Excellent communication skills and a warm, customer-focused personality.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, remain calm under pressure and multitask effectively.
  • Strong teamwork skills and a professional appearance.
  • Comfortable using POS systems and handling transactions.
  • Flexibility to work shifts including weekends, evenings and public holidays.
