Job Purpose

Render technical support to NWM regarding the licensing, engineering, implementation/ construction and commissioning aspects of the various radioactive waste management pre-treatment, processing, conditioning and storage processes and NWM waste facilities on the Necsa site. This includes decontamination and decommissioning

Key Performance Areas

Job Requirements

  • Develop, review and maintain safety cases for waste processing facilities.
  • Prepare and maintain the applicable licensing documentation.
  • Review technically and from a safety perspective the applicable Safety Assessments.
  • Develop, review and establish processes for waste conditioning in line with the Waste Acceptance Criteria (WAC) for applicable disposal facility.
  • Development of new process management systems, maintenance, and upgrading of existing systems.
  • Managing project tasks to comply with internal Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality requirements.
  • Managing project tasks to comply with internal Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality requirements.
  • Development and evaluation of effective strategies for technical projects e.g. licensing corporate SHEQ requirements, ZOP’s and optimization of waste processes.
  • Managing multidisciplinary projects through all the design phases: concept, design, construction/ installation, commissioning, handover/ operation.
  • Technically prepare or review the following documents: Safety cases, Reports, Manuals, ISIP, Procedures, OTS, Specifications, Design Specifications, WAR, HIRA, Basis of design, QA Plan, HAZOP, Training procedures, Purchase specifications, SAR, Problem statements.

Key Knowledge & Skills:

  • Management: Project management.
  • Knowledge of quality systems and regulatory procedures.
  • Facilitation of processes (HAZOP’s and other applicable SHEQ evaluation systems)
  • Technical writing skills and computer literacy.
  • Process design
  • Knowledge of contract management
  • Knowledge of design of radioactive waste management facilities and processes: Report and procedure writing, Quality assurance, good health (radiation worker).
  • Knowledge: Conditioning, treatment, storage and disposal techniques for management of nuclear waste.
  • Skills: Problem solving, Interpersonal thinker,
  • Computer literacy is essential
  • Medically fit to be registered as an occupationally exposed worker.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Scientist: BSc honours (Chemistry/Physics/Nuclear Sciences) or BEng (Chemical/Nuclear)
  • Technologist: BTech (Chemistry/Physics/Nuclear Sciences)
  • Minimum Experience
  • At least 1 to 5 years in the design, development, construction, licensing, commissioning and maintenance of nuclear facilities.
