JOB PURPOSE:
This role is responsible to determine the most efficient route for transportation by calculating the most cost-effective way to move goods from one place to another. The Route planner will work in close cooperation with management to coordinate and plan first and last mile processes, with an emphasis on compliance with established standard operating procedures. In addition, maintain focus on optimizing route planning and scheduling to ensure efficient delivery of products, maintain customer satisfaction, and achieve cost-effective logistics operations aligned with RTT strategic goals.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Analysis of current delivery structures and make recommendations for improvements
- Efficiently plan and schedule delivery routes to minimize travel time, fuel consumption, and costs while ensuring timely delivery of products.
- Model routes for deliveries, considering factors like traffic, time, and driver breaks.
- Analysing distance, delivery schedules, load sizes, and cost to determine the best vehicle mix for each route
- Collaborate with drivers, warehouse staff, and management to ensure availability of resources for seamless logistics operations.
- Monitor routes: Monitor routes for speeding, violations, and deviations
- Maintain high levels of customer satisfaction by ensuring accurate and timely deliveries, addressing any route-related challenges promptly.
- Schedule and coordinate orders to maximize efficiency and meet customer expectations. 'Resolve customer inquiries and complaints related to delivery and routing
- Manage and adapt to unforeseen changes such as road closures, vehicle breakdowns, and urgent delivery requests.
- Identify opportunities to reduce delivery costs and improve operational efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with transportation regulations and provide detailed reports on logistics performance, delivery schedules, and KPIs.
- Tracking performance and reviewing business data to make ongoing improvements to routing strategies.
- Generate reports on route optimization, performance metrics, and cost analysis
Skills and Experience
JOB – RELATED REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field is preferred. (Essential)
- Experience in creating optimized route plans using routing software or other tools
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in route planning, logistics, or transportation management.
- Advanced Excel skills
Required Knowledge:
- In-depth understanding of logistics and transportation processes.
- Knowledge of route optimization techniques and tools.
- Familiarity with local and regional traffic laws and regulations.
- Understand the differentiators between primary and secondary logistics
