Full job description

The Housemate is looking for reliable house sitters across Cape Town

We are a Cape Town housesitting and pet sitting service. Our clients go away and we move into their homes, look after their pets, water the plants and keep everything running until they get back. We are growing and need dependable sitters to take on bookings across the city.

Please read the requirements before applying. We will not consider applications that do not meet them.

Requirements

  • You must have your own car and a valid driver's licence. Bookings are all over Cape Town and you may need to get a pet to a vet at short notice.
  • You must be 18 or older.
  • You must be a South African citizen or hold a valid work permit.
  • You must be able to stay overnight in a client's home for the full duration of a booking, typically 3 to 14 nights.
  • Confident with dogs and cats, including large or nervous animals.
  • A smartphone with WhatsApp. You will send clients daily photo updates.
  • Clear criminal record. We run background checks on every sitter.
  • Contactable references.

Preferred

  • Previous house sitting, pet sitting or animal care experience.
  • Experience with medication routines for pets.
  • Flexibility for last-minute bookings.

How the work is structured

  • This is pay per job, not hourly. You are paid a fixed amount per booking based on the number of nights and pets.
  • Work is on an independent contractor basis. There is no fixed roster and no guaranteed minimum hours. You accept the bookings that suit you.
  • Transport to and from bookings are covered by us.

What we expect

  • Treat every home as if it were your own. No guests, no parties, no sharing the address.
  • Follow the client's routine for their pets exactly. No compromising.
  • Be an extreme pet-lover.
  • Daily photo updates to the client, every day, without being reminded.
  • Hand over keys in person at the end of every booking.

We are looking for people in all areas

City Bowl, Atlantic Seaboard, Southern Suburbs, Northern Suburbs, Blouberg, Hout Bay, the Deep South, and the Helderberg. Tell us which areas you can cover.
