Productive workplace
HR (Former Employee) - South Africa - 12 July 2022
It was nice to work as part of a bigger team and feel included in decisions and planning. I felt valued and that my contribution mattered; I was promoted in my first 6 months and if circumstances were different, I would have loved to stay on.
Pros
Communication from the top down was excellent
Cons
Remote working was not an option

Demanding.
Professional Registered Quantity Surveyor (Former Employee) - Sandton, Gauteng Head Office / Durban Regional Office - 23 March 2022
Very stressful and demanding environment. Being in this environment ahs enabled me to manage time more efficiently and achieving more deliverables, Management approach for career advancement is very biased and is centred on BEE status and non recognition of individual achievements. Workplace culture is excellent. Failing to get recognition for individual efforts and achievements. I can honestly say that I have gained recognition in both the private and government sector and now value the expertise and knowledge gained over the years having worked for this company.
Pros
Good pension and medical aid + 13th cheque
Cons
Tight deadlines, stressful but competetive

misery
technician (Former Employee) - cape town - 2 November 2020
Some line managers need management training. They have zero people skills. If you work yourself up and earn a bit more they will let you go. The typical consultant rule applies where they want fast and cheap labour.
Pros
nice projects
Cons
long hours, hate, horrible managers

Very formal and rigid!
Project Manager (Former Employee) - Cape Town, Western Cape - 3 June 2020
It did not have room for the younger professionals to create opportunities, it was very structured and therefore employees disengaged most of the time.

Collaborative workplace where quality is paramount
Electrical Engineer (Current Employee) - Cape Town, South Africa - 13 May 2020
This is a good place to work to gain a lot of industry experience. The collaboration that happens between offices from different countries are also inspiring.

Below average
Professional Quantity Surveyor (Former Employee) - Gauteng - 17 November 2019
Favoritism and inequality very evident. No real chance of advancement unless you are a directors pet. Salary and benefits are really bad. No bonuses at all and little to no annual increases either. Overtime is a norm with no overtime payment. Complete disregard for employees with inhumane and insensitive ways about them in management and HR.

Engineering is never the same as each day is different from the previous. Engineering is on-going and forms part of daily procedures.
Lead Fire Engineer (Former Employee) - Pretoia - 5 February 2018
Engineering is never the same as each day is different from the previous. Engineering is on-going and forms part of daily procedures.
Management styles and working environment always teach you things like to learn and not making hasty, irrational decisions. Clients are always correct and treat everybody with respect.
Pros
Imaculate working environment.
Cons
Long hurs as engineering is used to.

productive, and comfortable workspace
Student Quantity Surveyor (Former Employee) - Cape Town, Western Cape - 5 February 2018
the office was very welcoming and everyone was nice. everyone worked well in team projects. we had meetings and they were very productive and worth while.
i've learnt alot from every individual in the company. i helped each employee with there work and gave me a broader understanding in the construction industry that i didn't get in lecture rooms.
the hardest part was making sure i dont make a mistake and that the pressure was huge when it came to pricing and properly quantifying bill of quantities and making sure there were no errors, since my work is being trusted.
the most enjoyable part is when they trust you with work and you do it and its all correct and the feeling that now they can trust you was the very enjoyable, also the moments we go out for our personal breaks or lunch time.
i've learnt alot from quantifying a BOQ, site measurements, interim valuations, and etc.
Pros
small office, so we can all communicate with each other
Cons
lots of errands

Productive and Healthy working environment
STUDENT QUANTITY SURVEYOR (Former Employee) - Cape Town, Western Cape - 7 December 2017
AECOM is a good company but the salary/benefit was a bit of a disadvantage for me. It was productive and the environment was healthy. It was easy to settle as the people are welcoming.

Productive & structured workplace
Chief Structural Engineer (Former Employee) - Cape Town, South Africa & Nairobi, Kenya - 31 October 2017
A typical day at work would include developing solutions with a wide collection of engineering and architectural groups. The company has broad exposure to all engineering disciplines. architectural and management services, as well as quality control during construction.
I have learnt to improve communication skills and to develop cost-effective civil- and structural solutions.
In a general sense, the value of a healthy work atmosphere that encourages productivity, good inter-personal relations and an appreciation of humour (when the work schedule gets hectic) added to the technical skills.
The hardest part of the job is to do focused detail quality checks of drawings, schedules and designs to ensure that all known potential problems are avoided.
The most enjoyable part of my work is to see satisfied clients requesting further work on new projects.
Pros
Wide-ranging world-wide opportunities.
Cons
The engineering market wants above-average work at a discount.

Production driven
CAD Draftsman (Current Employee) - City of Cape Town, Western Cape - 18 October 2017
Not just a simple 8 to 5 job.
You have to be willing to work overtime.
Currently, I learn more aspects of design every day.
The hardest part of the job is having to teach an employee things he is supposed to know as he had been in the same position as me for much longer than I have. The best part of the job is being able to design and model objects.
We have the best manager in our Department. Very Reasonable.
Pros
flexible break times, Experienced individuals, Close to my place of residence
Cons
Long Hours with no bonus or overtime pay.

Was a good work atmoshere
Apprentice Scaffolder (Former Employee) - Ft Mckay - 12 September 2017
As a whole the company was pretty good. The scaffolding Supers were a little out of their element, but managed pretty well. the crews were great and the work was typical, some slow times and some hair straight back times. The client was pretty easy to get along with and were supportive of the maintence crews
