Professional Registered Quantity Surveyor (Former Employee) - Sandton, Gauteng Head Office / Durban Regional Office - 23 March 2022
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedVery stressful and demanding environment. Being in this environment ahs enabled me to manage time more efficiently and achieving more deliverables, Management approach for career advancement is very biased and is centred on BEE status and non recognition of individual achievements. Workplace culture is excellent. Failing to get recognition for individual efforts and achievements. I can honestly say that I have gained recognition in both the private and government sector and now value the expertise and knowledge gained over the years having worked for this company.
Pros
Good pension and medical aid + 13th cheque
Cons
Tight deadlines, stressful but competetive

Productive, professional and friendly place.
Civil Engineering Intern (Former Employee) - Mokhotlong - 21 October 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Learnt a lot from the company, given an opportunity to grown both professionally, intellectually and personally. Was enabled space to contribute to engineering problem solving with challenges encountered on site. Learnt the true meaning of working as a team and making sure that deliverables are met on target and maintained quality assurance at all times on each task given. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Work load although was manageable with proper time management for each task assigned. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? It is a very conducive work environment where each member is treated with respect and are given an open platform to communicate any issues or suggestions they might have. The culture embodies professionalism, friendliness, and respect of all members irrespective of their designation or position. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Morning meeting to catch up on progress of on going activities, discuss any challenges and formulate solutions. Discuss ways on how to better time-management on assigned tasks and ability to prioritize work assigned. Always keeping safe at all times.

misery
technician (Former Employee) - cape town - 2 November 2020
Some line managers need management training. They have zero people skills. If you work yourself up and earn a bit more they will let you go. The typical consultant rule applies where they want fast and cheap labour.
Pros
nice projects
Cons
long hours, hate, horrible managers

Below average
Professional Quantity Surveyor (Former Employee) - Gauteng - 17 November 2019
Favoritism and inequality very evident. No real chance of advancement unless you are a directors pet. Salary and benefits are really bad. No bonuses at all and little to no annual increases either. Overtime is a norm with no overtime payment. Complete disregard for employees with inhumane and insensitive ways about them in management and HR.

Engineering is never the same as each day is different from the previous. Engineering is on-going and forms part of daily procedures.

Productive & structured workplace
Chief Structural Engineer (Former Employee) - Cape Town, South Africa & Nairobi, Kenya - 31 October 2017
A typical day at work would include developing solutions with a wide collection of engineering and architectural groups. The company has broad exposure to all engineering disciplines. architectural and management services, as well as quality control during construction.
I have learnt to improve communication skills and to develop cost-effective civil- and structural solutions.
In a general sense, the value of a healthy work atmosphere that encourages productivity, good inter-personal relations and an appreciation of humour (when the work schedule gets hectic) added to the technical skills.
The hardest part of the job is to do focused detail quality checks of drawings, schedules and designs to ensure that all known potential problems are avoided.
The most enjoyable part of my work is to see satisfied clients requesting further work on new projects.
Pros
Wide-ranging world-wide opportunities.
Cons
The engineering market wants above-average work at a discount.

Productive, Fun and Supportive
Candidate Quantity Surveyor (Current Employee) - Cape Town, South Africa - 6 June 2015
We start work at 8am, most Mondays we have a resource meeting to talk about the week and what needs to be done in the week.
Management is always giving advice and makes working at AECOM pleasant. My co-workers are extremely supportive and caring. We are more like a family in the office and we all very close. We do a lot of team building and sport activities together.
The hardest part of my job is working long hours in the retail sector but i am grateful for the experience. I really enjoy working and going for training to better myself. I learn something new every week and I find the retail sector extremely interesting. It take a lot of hard work and long hours but the experience is worth it all.

Socially responsible and employer-centred international company
Senior Project Manager, Controls Systems (Current Employee) - Pretoria, GP - 15 April 2015
AECOM is likely the biggest international company with nearly 100,000 employees worldwide. I was responsible for the implementation and advancement of project controls and project controls systems in the Africa region. This included technical installations & deployment, training and high-level administration. It also included the offering if PMIS services to clients as a stand-alone management service. I naturally adapt very well to new environments and people and would like to believe that I am generally liked and respected. My management style is inclusive and sympathetic, while stringent when required. The most enjoyable part of my job was the ability to express creativity in the manner with which system solutions are designed to suit specific products, the biggest challenge being change management for employees to adopt and adapt to new systems.
Pros
Exposure to international skills support
Cons
Adhering to limiting systems variables to streamline global standards

I really was impressed by the staff, they are soooo professional and willing to help, their commitment, and passion for the company.Aecom is a great brand and I tell my family and friends that it is a company I thought only existed in my dreams and I was amazed being there. There are alot of opportunities to grow and I love that management emphasizes education and they are motivators as well and everyone treats each person with deep respect.
I had to work in assisting with measurements, linking BOQ estimates, site meeting ,assisting with tender adjudication, there is alot but it was a challenge to juggle many things in one time but I greatful I tried my best to meet those tasks and challenges.

Resident Engineer (Former Employee) - Pretoria, GP - 14 September 2014
I always enjoy my job when there are no hidden agendas at the top management. because it is frustrating when the subordinates doing their level best on the ground whilst there are decisions and deviations that are taken at the top level without communicating with those physically involved on the ground - it creates confusion and one feels stupid.
Pros
passionate about my work when with a supportive hard working team
Cons
unpaid overtime
