Productive and Healthy working environment
STUDENT QUANTITY SURVEYOR (Former Employee) - Cape Town, Western Cape - 7 December 2017
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedAECOM is a good company but the salary/benefit was a bit of a disadvantage for me. It was productive and the environment was healthy. It was easy to settle as the people are welcoming.

Productive workplace
HR (Former Employee) - South Africa - 12 July 2022
It was nice to work as part of a bigger team and feel included in decisions and planning. I felt valued and that my contribution mattered; I was promoted in my first 6 months and if circumstances were different, I would have loved to stay on.
Pros
Communication from the top down was excellent
Cons
Remote working was not an option

Toxic and hostile working environment
Candidate Quantity Surveyor (Current Employee) - Centurion, Gauteng - 22 May 2021
Working for Aecom SA was amazing in the first year of my career and they teach alot and the technology is also advanced. However, the environment is hostile as there is no room for growth and also no increases or/and bonuses. Working over time without pay is also a normal thing. There’s alot of favoritism aswel, if you are the bosses pet you are good.
Pros
Great projects, flexible, always in line with current technologies
Cons
Unpaid overtime, No bonuses and increases

misery
technician (Former Employee) - cape town - 2 November 2020
Some line managers need management training. They have zero people skills. If you work yourself up and earn a bit more they will let you go. The typical consultant rule applies where they want fast and cheap labour.
Pros
nice projects
Cons
long hours, hate, horrible managers

Very formal and rigid!
Project Manager (Former Employee) - Cape Town, Western Cape - 3 June 2020
It did not have room for the younger professionals to create opportunities, it was very structured and therefore employees disengaged most of the time.

Civil Engineer (Former Employee) - City of Edinburgh - 19 October 2017
In general, i can can only share positive feedback about working at AECOM. The corporate culture was great, and it filtered through to the general staff. The work life balance was very good.

Production driven
CAD Draftsman (Current Employee) - City of Cape Town, Western Cape - 18 October 2017
Not just a simple 8 to 5 job.
You have to be willing to work overtime.
Currently, I learn more aspects of design every day.
The hardest part of the job is having to teach an employee things he is supposed to know as he had been in the same position as me for much longer than I have. The best part of the job is being able to design and model objects.
We have the best manager in our Department. Very Reasonable.
Pros
flexible break times, Experienced individuals, Close to my place of residence
Cons
Long Hours with no bonus or overtime pay.

Was a good work atmoshere
Apprentice Scaffolder (Former Employee) - Ft Mckay - 12 September 2017
As a whole the company was pretty good. The scaffolding Supers were a little out of their element, but managed pretty well. the crews were great and the work was typical, some slow times and some hair straight back times. The client was pretty easy to get along with and were supportive of the maintence crews

Productive and fun work place with its ups and dowm moments
Graduate Engineer (Current Employee) - Cape Town, WC - 15 October 2015
It is a fun company to work for, it has platforms which allow people to grow and deliver better productivity everyday. It is a company with a lot of departments (transport, water, mechanical, energy, structural etc) and we usually meet on fridays during Friday meetings and there we talk about everything and what changes we would like to see in the company inorder to be suitable for everybody, but the most enjoyable part is working with my mentor, he hellped me to be who i am today. we have the most exciting projects at the moment with a lot of tasks to complete.
Pros
30 minutes lunch
Cons
8 hours

Productive, Fun and Supportive
Candidate Quantity Surveyor (Current Employee) - Cape Town, South Africa - 6 June 2015
We start work at 8am, most Mondays we have a resource meeting to talk about the week and what needs to be done in the week.
Management is always giving advice and makes working at AECOM pleasant. My co-workers are extremely supportive and caring. We are more like a family in the office and we all very close. We do a lot of team building and sport activities together.
The hardest part of my job is working long hours in the retail sector but i am grateful for the experience. I really enjoy working and going for training to better myself. I learn something new every week and I find the retail sector extremely interesting. It take a lot of hard work and long hours but the experience is worth it all.
