Wide scope for learning and development
Business Banker (Former Employee) - Cape Town, Western Cape - 3 October 2020
Be very careful of the kinds of work ethics one is exposed to, as ultimately you individually account. Stay in your lane and don't prematurely be competitive.

It is a great place to work.
Mobile Developer Intern (Former Employee) - Cape Town, Western Cape - 9 March 2020
A great place to work. I got exposed to the corporate life, the way you need to behave and yourself and others in the workspace. I enjoyed working with my team on my time there but always felt pressure to deliver on our deadlines, as it is a big company.

Fun workplace
Bank Teller (Former Employee) - Cape Town, Western Cape - 7 October 2019
At Absa every morning you would have meetings called HUDDLES. Many times we would have simple and fun games when introducing new products etc.
The culture is great especially since the brand changed to Africanacity.

Busy and productive
Outside Sales Consultant (Former Employee) - Cape Town, Western Cape - 11 February 2019
Since i was a casual when i worked at absa, there was not really that much to do. When i worked by the Meadowridge branch, I relieved the tellers for their lunch breaks then was allowed to go home straight afterwards. When working by the Rondebosh brach, i worked a full day but got paid the same amount as i did when i was by the other branch. I know it was no their fault, but the agencies. The vibe in the branches was always good and i got along with everyone in both branches and even mad a very good friend in one. The hardest part was just the hours that i worked as well as month end when people tend to get a bit more annoyed when someone takes too long at one teller but the best part about it was the people that worked there as well as most of the clients. But one thing that i really did enjoy was when we had load shedding
Pros
Lunch breaks were acceptable, people are welcoming and help you grow
Cons
Long hours, working on weekends

Lack of growth potential and coaching
User Experience Designer (Former Employee) - Cape Town, Western Cape - 6 July 2018
I was part of a team that worked remotely.
To begin with, we lacked the basic office necessities to successfully work as a remote team, such a telephones and private boardroom space ( Requirements I feel should be standard.)
There was a complete lack of brand strategy or compelling proposition to work from in the digital space.
No measured approach to remuneration or recognition within my team.
Decisions that were left to senior executives never filtered down to production and after nearly two years of working on a project there was still no clear commitment to its prioritisation.
Overall, it seemed that there were too many fires to put out, meaning that not enough time was spent growing individuals or investing in future leaders.
Pros
Great staff benefits on loans/products, as well as competitive packages.
Cons
No clear growth path/ support, no clear vision.
