Feels like home

When your workplace feels like a home away from home. Then you know that you’re at the right company. Management felt like they were family and this is why I can always look back and say that was a great start up for my career

The commission structure is very bad . It takes forever to build a steady income.

There is no guidance when you are appointed as a financial advisor . From the initial meeting with the client to arranging for commission to be paid, an advisor has to take the A to - Z task him/ herself . The bank that I was placed in provided very little support in terms of referral business . More than 90 % of the business I sourced were my own clients. The internal system is very slow .

Productve

I started out with Absa not fully understanding exactly what was required of me. Thinking I am joining a Broker firm I was surprised to learn that I was actually going to work in an Absa Bank branch. I also had to start with cold calling for business which is something that I have never done before and would never have agreed to when taking the position which was the most difficult aspect of my job. The opportunity to learn the business from beginning to en was definitely an opportunity and learnt a lot about myself and the business. Once the client agreed to the quotes presented I had to assist from changes on his policy, claims, queries and obtaining new quotes in order to keep the client

Pros

I learn alot about the Broker side of the industry

Cons

I am not a sales person

Productive and fun workplace. Customer centric

My typical day at work was very long, we had many customers to service and it was not always easy but in the end it was always worth it for me. I have learned a lot of valuable lessons that I can carry with into my next job and role. Work place culture was driven and dedicated. Hardest part of my job was leaving it The most enjoyable part f the job is leaving my customers with a smile on their faces and joy in their hearts.

Pros

Free gifts

Cons

Heavy workload

Productive working area

A typical working day is that you logged on with all 5/7 systems that you need to QA on. I learn something new everyday. i have improved and relieved a good project knowledge of the Insurance industry. Claims, Underwriting as well as payments and loss adjusters. Moving to Quality Assurance, there was technical and soft skills that you realize the importance it is to a department and the financial risk it has on the both the company as well as the customer. Management is always on the go and always requesting reporting on the specific portfoilo that you are busy with. Workplace culture is a mix of races and different personalities that you adapt to. Hardest part of the job is that is not enough hours in a day to get everything done and that is with planning. The love i have for helping and assisting a poor performer to be his/her best.

Pros

Agile days

Cons

No tea break
