Great, evolving company

Almar Investment is a contracting company for the chrome smelters, it is a great place to grow in the mining industry and to learn more about the Chrome process.

Cons

Long hours

Almar

Worked on a consultant basis initially and then appointed on a permanent basis. Typical day at work was to built up a SHEQ Management system and motivate workforce to participate in H&S. Being a contracting firm the company has a poor work culture with lots of promises made by management and then conveniently forgetting about it. The most enjoyable part of the job was working with salt of the earth people who, irrespective of being regarded as a number, still gave their all and was doing it proudly.

Pros

Collegues

Cons

Management without Integrity

Pros

Cons

Its all about production

A day in Almar starts with a safety talk because that takes priority considering that we work with heavy machinery and also hot material so safety is crucial. Team work is what gets each shift going in order to meet the target of the day and so this entails all workers to be in communication together with shift production manager in order to get everyone working. The hardest part comes with me has been that i work alone in four furnaces which means i have to keep an eye in four furnaces and be in communication with all the operators within those sectors but that has taught me efficiency and always having to go the extra mile.

Pros

two days off after every 7 days

Cons

working shifts

Working good

Changing of management and always fear us by saying if you want ti leave your can go. Salary and my job of doing hydraulic fault finding work for me and for the campony. Long hours never have problem on them and there was no free hour because machine push hot metal on smalters each an every hour is a break down never have problem on that. Those machine always having hydraulic fault because of burnt of hydraulic hose or hydraulic valves.

Pros

No free Lunch

Cons

Long hours

Owner and management not committed to safety, only production

Meeting Brake Test Ramp Inspection Audit Training Report Disciplinary Enquiries Accidents/Incidents Investigations Reporting to client Enjoyed working with diverse cultures, called me mama Fifi Management will not stand by you when it comes to reporting safety issues Trying to motivate people not to strike Keeping the people motivated by handing out incentives out of my own pocket

Pros

Interaction with workers that "pays our salaries"

Cons

Management overruling decisions for safety

Working towards continuas improvement, employees trained for different skill, proffessional and values and respects it's employess health and safety.

My leadership skills have improved since I joined the organization, has qualified management which is always open to listen and advice it's employees. Most discliplined co workers who understand the work toward improving their skill and understands the importance of keeping the product high quality and responsible for their safety. The hard part of the job will be when we need to meet the deadline whereas the climate does not allow us. Sharing ideas and the compliments of job well done by the management is enjoyable

Good Starting place for a career in the metallutigal world

Its was good experience to work for the company. They send me for operators licences for Front end loader and excavator. I also learned a lot about the smelting process of chrome and how the plant is built and commissioned, it is a very competitive industry. You must be hard as stone and at the same time compassionate about the people you work with. What a learning school it was.
