Great for working from home

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
They give you all the equipment you need, they pay for your internet bill, as well as medical aid. They have day/night shifts, and you choose whether you prefer night/day shifts, but those hours are not always guaranteed. Training is done virtually. The pay is low for someone with kids, but its good for a student/ single person. You can be moved around different departments at short notice with little training, and that can be stressful. They justify this madness by reminding you of their motto which is "everyday is day one", so you have to be agile and a fast learner to work here.

Pros

Working from home, working for a big company

Cons

being moved around different departments frequently

Overworked

Amazon needs to pay their employees more due to the amount of work that they need to do. There is no work life balance. Shift work is terrible. You need to work overtime to make a decent living. No bonuses.

Pros

Swag

Cons

Short breaks, night shift, low pay

Amazing

Amazon is the best company to work for. It is absolutely amazing. You are valued and you grow as person and in your career every day. Management is very helpful and you feel like you belong there. Great to work there and earn a decent salary with med aid and pension fund and also job security is almost gaurunteed all depends on the individual.

Everyday is day1

The culture is amazing. Constantly learning and true to the motto 'Work hard, Have fun, make History ' Amazon has their own internal system like Skype which is amazing for communication and meetings

Pros

Fibre reimbursement, all equipment supplied, 10 percent discount, supplied ups

Cons

Nighshift possibly over weekend

High pressured work environment

Performance based culture and incredible pressure and micro management. HR doesn’t exist.. hope for decent management. The hours are brutal and the performance goals are intentionally near impossible to reach. Expect 11 hour overnight shifts .. very little work life balance. You will work hard for your money , a lot of us suffered from burn out and there isn’t any employee wellness program that is locally based. You get routed through to a call centre in India 😂 you’re on your own essentially. I found it draining and stressful. Working shifts is a commitment you need to be willing to make because if you can’t they don’t accommodate you.

Long hours

Very little support from team leaders to do tasks. Long hours. Not much security, never sure if you'll be made permanent. Team culture is awesome to be a part of.

Great environment

I was very excited and would wish to be employed at Amazon again but going back as a team leader as I have gained experience where I am currently working, Amazon is the most amazing workplace you can ever dream of, nice salary incentives, a chance to grow massively through the company but sadly my grandmother passed away and couldn't cope well at work and my seasonal contract was ended by then

Pros

Kiosk

Cons

Safety

Good but pressured environment

Great company and good salary for someoneIn their 20’s. Long hours and high standards set from the company. Pressured working environment but still worth it.

Fast paced work place

To work at Amazon, you need to be a fast learner and really know how to communicate. You're taught before you begin interacting with customers. It's very fast paced and you cannot be behind. It gets VERY busy during busy seasons. With the right team manager and the right attitude, you can really enjoy working at Amazon. Knowing how to deal with customers is key, they can get rude, angry or irritated.

Honestly, a great place to work at.

Amazon is a great place to work at. Yeah, its tough at times but what job isn't. As long as you do what you need to do, you won't have issues with management breathing down your neck. There are immensely huge opportunities to grow within the business or even through the business to a different career.

Pros

Great work environment, amazing salary, fantastic benefits.

Cons

Shifts

Productive and fun workplace

I worked for Amazon during the early stages of the COVID pandemic. It was remote, from home. They provided the hardware needed for the job. Full training of three weeks were provided and you were paid for it. Enjoyed my time working there. Was a fast- paced working environment. Provided customer support over the phone. Answered about 40 to 80 calls during a shift.

Stressful and US based working hours

Nor knowing what to expect each day from the call and the low renumeration rate was stressful. Working overnight for US based working hours means you have to adjust your sleeping patterns

Great place for a first job

They have good benefits and you learn a lot. Their HR is non-existent though. Big corps tend to treat people like machines. You're basically on your own unless you have a cool manager.

Pros

Benefits and stability

Cons

Rigid schedules, incompetent line managers

Fast paced and challenging

Typical workday is, you clock in and answer calls for 8 hours straight. The initial training was fun and interactive but after training you're just expected to answer calls without much team interaction, which is actually needed to keep morale and energy high. Management are ok, but very strict because they have a quota to reach, it's all about the numbers and you sometimes feel lost in the system, but they try their best to support you. As a CSA, you get rated on what the customer "feels" despite whether you did the job right or not, which is unfair. The pay at Amazon SA has improved and is a lot better than other local contact centres and they're always looking for ways to improve, but it's still unfair that a US-based agent gets paid over 3 times more for the same position, we would feel more appreciated if we could be better remunerated, then it would be ideal and the hip place to be. The company has a high turnover, people leave every second day due to pressure and pay, and they don't seem to care. The job can become stressful with irate customers, but the job challenges you to learn as much as you can and it requires you to be on the ball, you have to know your stuff so it keeps you sharp and on your toes. Overall, I like the company, but it would be even better if they could make some changes like increased salary and how our performance is measured (not in the customers hands, because that's subjective and often biased).

Pros

Better salary than local contact centres, medical aid and pension company contributions, WiFi reimbursement

Cons

Night shift, work on public holidays, can't take vacation between peak periods November-January

Really good benefits and great support. Overall a good company. They offer great growing opportunity. Supportive managers and opportunity to make lifelong friends, even in a work from home environment.

Cons

Shift work

Continuously moving the goalposts

As we know there isn't a flurry of jobs out there. So it's better than being unemployed. A good way to get some call centre experience. But you are just a number, and they change the rules as they please

Pros

Medical aid subidy

Cons

Long shifts, no flexibility, micro management culture, you are just a number.

Fun but stressful

Fun if you are part of a great team. You have to be willing to learn in the environment you'll be in. Long hours and you need to be flexible at all times.
