Great for Learning but no growth for development
Recruitment (Current Employee) - Johannesburg - 20 May 2022
Transparency should be made in terms off Shared services and Anglo Platinum for candidates applying as they get sold lies at times . Politics in the workplace is a no no that does not allow you to grow within the company regardless off the experience you have even going for a lower position still get rejected. Management should uphold true values of Anglo American and ensure the growth within the company retaining employees. Pay scale not the greatest but manageable for such a reputable big company .
Pros
Free lunch
Cons
No benefits housing, overtime, no growth if you want to grow into senior position

Safety Officer (Current Employee) - Thabazimbi, Limpopo - 1 February 2022
Anglo American is a good company except that in some other technical services the salaries are lower than the other sites of the company, which in my view is not fair. As result one might end up saying Anglo-American is a bad company however it is a good company to work for.
Pros

Safety comes first so that we can work at the safe place and people or workers comes first
Assistant logistic officer (Former Employee) - Witbank, Mpumalanga - 26 January 2022
For me personally anglo American was a good company to work for, because they take safety of their employees first, and we work as a family. Safety is the number one priority. Care and respect is there at anglo American. We work as a brothers sisters keeper. Every time you start a job we need to check the hazard or something can course danger to employees. Even if the type of job change we also check the hazard because we are going to do another job.
Pros
No free lanches
Cons
Normal working hours and standby when needed

It is a very large company and lots of procedures to follow. Seemed that inter-departmental co-operation was not fostered, rather a competitive attitude was kindled.

Productive
Geologist (Former Employee) - Johannesburg, Gauteng - 28 September 2020
The Coal SA business (aka Anglo Coal) has good salaries and bonuses - they are above average, although disparities tend to be based on racial lines, i.e. white personnel in the same role make more and advance faster. Mining and Engineering are probably best departments to be in, the managers in those departments tend to have a lot of say and are generally better at managing their departments. The same can't be said for Technical Services, particularly Geology - management is weak and the department tends to be sidelined. The company culture is more concerned about putting in the hours than the quality of work produced. Probably not the best place to be in if you seek an intellectual challenge - work is repetitive and innovation is only encouraged in theory but generally never accepted.
Pros
Development courses are paid for and encouraged, Further degrees can be paid for depending on the line manager
Cons
Intellectually not stimulating, Afrikaans culture still very strong, Afrikaans used to sideline black employees at the mines
